What’s the best bank?

I’m planning on returning to the UK in the next 6 months. I won’t have a job but will have a significant amount to transfer from my US account.

Hints for the best bank.

Beat off spreading it about as you only get protection for £85k.

Atom bank is a good online bank and it’s hq is in Durham.

my main banking is with Santander but recently opened accounts with monzo and really impressed with it.
No idea on best saving accounts at the minute as not quite in the position yet.

what brings you back mate? If you don’t mind me asking.

I don't think there's a whole lot of options for saving accounts at the minute, sadly.

Thanks for the advice, I’ll be bringing about $160k so will probably spread it about

Barclays I've been with since I was 16 and never had an issue.. others will say otherwise mind

Starling bank I've found spot on for online

Moving decent wedges of cash across borders I last used Moneycorp and they were spot on.

Sent 150k to new Zealand and a similar amount to Australia.. they wait for best spot rate then go.. minimal fees too
