India Series on FTA?

I think t20 has been hampered by the lack of actual England players being allowed to play and when they do, stokes for example, could not bowl an over when we were in the final

if stokes and wood were allowed to play for Durham, I’m convinced we would get closer to 10000 in. Now though a trip to headingley is a NE kids chance to see Stokes live

This is a good point too. The top players are less accessible now due to central contracts. I remember seeing Lancashire play at the Riverside in a championship game in 95 and getting my picture taken with Michael Atherton who was England captain. I was 7 years old and you don’t forget those moments.

The first game I watched live was at the Scarborough festival and Gatting, Gough, Ramprakash and Richie Richardson were among those playing!

Heathen 😉

You support the county in the best location in England for a 6pm midweek start mind mate!

Firstly, your reply to Carty is spot on. If I were a kid, saw Durham advertising Wood and Stokes, Yorkshire advertising Root and Rashid and I turned up for a big game and neither of them were playing, I'd feel short changed.

As for the second - that's dependant on your opinion! Don't get me wrong I love a packed Oval but the Friday night T20 crowds do my absolute head in. Bunch of City tossers in salmon pink shirts getting loaded up and offering people out/moving during overs/bringing shit football craic into cricket - it's a no from me. On the occasion I do go to a T20 I stick to the members areas to avoid these cretins

Yeah, that’s understandable mate. T20 attracts a different crowd and you probably get the ‘City boys’ in London who just fancy a few pints after work but make it unbearable for those around them. I guess the beauty of The Oval is how accessible it’s location is in a heavily populated city.

I've tried watching the Super Bowl but it just sends me asleep. One sport which I've never been able to get into.
It’s worth the effort if you can. I know exactly what you mean but eventually it becomes clearer the more you can watch.

the mrs doesn’t know it yet but that’s me sorted late Sunday till about lunchtime on Monday

Quite a few of the lads at work are into NFL - I've really tried getting into it but it just seems a load of shite to me, basically rugby wearing cricket pads

It’s more than that. It takes time to get what’s going on but when you do it’s great, I’ve been watching since the 80s on CH4

sunday could be a classic with Brady who has won 6 against the new kid mahomes who won last years.

Aye know what you mean. I can actually sympathise with Americans trying to understand cricket when I watch that

I've actually been in bars in the US with Americans who have tried to explain what is going on but it's still a mystery. It doesn't help when you see 15 mins left on the clock and an hour later they are still playing. Just seems to be a lot of standing around and advert breaks - though, I suppose, some would say that about cricket.

I'm just gonna pretend I know what this is on about ;)

Brady is 43 and Mahomes is early 20s . They are both quarterbacks who throw the ball. The old master versus the apprentice. Both great to watch how they make the game so easy.
Gotcha.

Although trying to sell NFL as they just "throw the ball" is an impressive marketing strategy

   Mahomes is the Kansas City chiefs star man and they have a little fella who can run like a 100m star when he gets loose, called hill. they are built for speed

brady is the Tampa bay buccaneers qb who has won more games than any other and has experience all around him to pass to.

when the season restarts there is a show called Redzone which has no adverts and constant action on a Sunday night. That’s the place if you fancy learning the game. The Super Bowl is designed for a peak time usa audience and they pay huge money for adverts during the game, so it’s stop start

try out Redzone when it comes back in September,

Cheers for the heads up - I'll give it a go, though you may need to remind me!

Old enough to remember when The Old Master vs The Apprentice was Joe Montana vs Dan Marino. Used to love American Football in the 80s and 90s and even used to tune in to the American Forces Network radio commentary - now that was dedication.

  I remember those lads 49rs and the dolphins. Ive still not forgiven Marino for stopping the Bears going perfect in 85

they were a team apart that Bears team and coach

I went to San Diego Chargers v Miami Dolphins about 20 years ago. There is a common ground with their fans and us - they love their food at the game.

Before and after the game, they would open their car boots and have a tailgate party, which was essentially a hearty lunch before the game and a few nibbles and beers after. It was canny.

Because San Diego was so near the border, there were plenty of Mexicans, including a trumpeter. The scoreboards were eerily similar to the ones used at the World Cup '78 in Argentina. It all felt very Central or even South American, the whole day.
