Nissan

Depends how long it’s only 1 day upto now I’m on line 2 anyway won’t loose much 85% pay
Aye I don't fancy longterm furlough again but I'd still take it over banking hours.

I work at a supplier and they've only furloughed the line one lads. The line two lads might have nowt to do because we only build for QQ.

10% tariffs on imported components then another 10% tariff on the exported final product would never of been sustainable for a company with BIG money problems no matter how much offsetting is done.Radcliffe the great brexiteer didnt choose to France owa the UK for nowt.

Try not to read the papers tomorrow dopey.

Havent we already discussed the benefits of Radcliffe getting a free existing billions of pounds worth of old Mercedes factory and machinery ready to assemble bodies in France?

Still good news for the Nissan workers on the horizon potentially.

Excellent news.

Didn't Nissan sell the majority of their battery business a few months back (they tried to sell it all to one outfit and then ended up selling to another, Envision Group IIRC)- I am sure they held onto 25% or so. As my kid brother works at the battery plant and my employer supplies the electrolyte for the batteries good news for both of us.

There was a takeover or partial takeover but I don't know the details. Plans for a massive new battery plant in Blyth apparently but I don't know any details about that either.

Nice to see it's all worked out canny, end of the day Nissan never wanted away, they need a certain percentage of cars value be made in the EU / UK to comply with trade laws iirc, costs are huge to set up a new plant. They played the whole thing as I would expect a massive company to do, lay the odd threat and many a warning along the way to put the squeeze on those in charge, the worst thing was the way the media and a section of the public loved to act as though they wanted out and the Sunderland plant was doomed.

Congratualtions to all the lads and lasses who get on here and work at Nissan or the supply chain, haway the cars.

There'll be some on here who will be absolutely furious at this
Posted in the politics forum before i saw this and it’s quite quiet. It’s the same on Reddit. Loads of people commenting on the furlough story and blaming brexit despite the company saying it’s covid related and the additional customs checks are “peanuts” but barely anyone talking about this good news. It’s really sad.

Great news. I do think if a no deal had prevailed there would have been some big questions Nissan would have asked about the plants future viability however thankfully it would appear the deal that’s been struck gives sufficient comfort for Nissan to commit. Hopefully this scheme will now become a reality as a consequence.
