PL games since our return.

And we're skipping over the fact that the football, the actual spectcle, is worse.
I feel for you. I’ve backed some sad sack teams in my time. Was a diehard Seahawks fan when they came into the NFL. Took them decades to come good.
PL football is a whole different thing with relegation. Setting up to not lose is always going to be the standard in the lower half and the ultimate goal is to not get relegated. Keep 3 clubs under yourself. Losing is losing whether it’s pretty or ugly. Benitez did it at Villa thinking a draw would keep you safe instead of playing football. All managers in the lower half of the table are conditioned to do the same.
Why he set up that way against the worst team is beyond me and that needs addressing but Ashley is only looking at survival. I don’t think he gives a shit about beautiful draws/losses.
Do yourself a favor and remember it’s just a game. Also pray you don’t go down. It can get much, much worse. We had a manager afraid of unleashing the hounds against the mighty MK Dons ffs.

To pin your goal scoring hopes on getting a penalty, or luck, or a worldy. It's unsustainable. Burnley don't, Brighton don't, Crystal Palace don't, why should we?

ive gotta be honest i was shocked how hecset you up last nite. To not go for it against the so far adrift bottom team is applling and you got what you deserved.
Parkinson did similar when we played MK Dons at home ...it was both unbelievabke and disgusting

Even in the examples you give, it's patently obvious that those losses were worse under Bruce than they were under Benitez. Those scores show that we were outmatched by elite teams, but defended well. Bruce's show we were soundly beaten. We never conceded 5 under Benitez, already done that 3 times under Bruce. Only McClaren managed us to heavy defeats more frequently (-3) than Bruce has.

Benitez didn't take the cups seriously and that's not good.

But have you watched us? Bruce's football is terrible. Benitez stuff might not be entertaining, but fuck me it was better than this shit.
It shows that the results were exactly the same. If you are going to sit and complain that getting beat under Bruce is far worse than getting beat under Rafa, simply because you are conceding a few more goals (against top sides) you need to revaluate how you watch football and go and enjoy something else.

Never had a problem losing if you've executed a good plan but been undone by a better side on the day, I can't put up with the shit we're seeing under Bruce. I'd honestly have Pardew back ahead of this clown.
I don't think we're safe and given the players we've got, we should be. Especially in this season.

So you've no problem getting beaten 4 or 5-0? It wouldn't bother you? It bothers me. Way more than losing by 1 or 2.

Also, we're not just conceding a few more goals against top sides, we're getting humped by Leeds, by Brighton, by Norwich!

I can take enjoyment from losses, draws, wins. Good football is good football, whether it's cavalier Keegan-esque, tiki-taka, or a brilliant defensive performance. This is not good football.

Against City, United and Arsenal? No not particularly and i certainly wouldn't use it in a debate when the person your comparing him to lost exactly the same games albeit by a lower scoreline.

We have endured a 5-1 loss to Spurs, 8-0 loss to Southampton, 4-0 at home to Villa, 4-1 at home to Palace yet Poyet is by far and away one of our most highly thought of managers in the last decade.

As I have said previously this isn't an attack on Benitez, it's simply saying you've been shite under both. How many goals you get beat by doesn't really matter when you still lose the game, The results (in a results business) are almost identical.

If the fact of the matter was known, Benitez made you feel relevant because of his past managerial experiences. Benitez was clever and passed off that he wasn't a yes man, whilst draining the clubs finances on one of the biggest contracts in football. You don't like the idea that Bruce is your manager because you have all made the assumption that he is just a puppet to Ashley. Bruce is an old school manager that has been part of the British manager merry-go-round for a number of years (the opposite of what you had before) and it's now claimed that Bruce is seen somewhat of a 'media-darling' and therefore he 'gets away with it' without being challenged, and for that reason, you don't like it. The bottom line fact however, Is that he is doing just the same job as Benitez which was producing dull, shite, defensive, uninspiring football that will see you safe and not much else.

This.....

["I grew up worshipping Sir Bobby and King Kev, not for the glory but for the passion they instilled in players who didn’t have roots in the North East and probably didn’t understand the fans as well as they should have."]

That's not a fact of the matter, it's your opinion because it leans into your prejudice. Benitez made us feel hopeful because he spoke ambitiously, he organised the defence and had us playing defensive football well. We immediately bounced back as Champions and were rarely overwhelmed in Premier League games.

We don't like Bruce because he's shit, he's been shit most of his career. Before Newcastle he had the lowest win% for a PL manager with over 200 games. Bruce has been defended by pundits and we've been told that he plays the same way as Benitez (and been told he'll play attacking football). He doesn't do either. He sets up with 5 at the back, but then doesn't press, is easy to play through, gives up loads of chances. We are often overhwlemed in Premier League games, not just by the elite clubs, but by rock bottom, winless, worst team in PL history, Sheffield United. So it's like saying a Lada is the same as a Volvo because they're both cars.

Losing by 3,4,5 goals shows your defence is shit or their attack was amazing. Conceding 3,4,5 goals to Brighton, Leeds, Norwich shows your defence is shit, because their attacks are not amazing.

Before RB joined we were told by Sunderland fans that he definitely wouldn't, well he wouldn't stay after relegation, well he won't get promoted, but only cos we spent the most, well Aston Villa might have spent more but Newcastle had a better side anyway, well we wouldn't go up as champions, well he'll not keep us up...
Now that he's gone apparently the football was terrible, and Bruce is just as bad, even though we are now scoring fewer and conceding more, and getting fewer points per game.

The bottom line is that because Newcastle fans supported Benitez, some sunderland fans twist themselves in knots to criticse him, and because Newcastle fans don't support Bruce some sunderland fans will twist themselves in knots to defend him.
