South Africa v England T20s

Went out for my weekly bike ride in freezing temperatures at 7am so I could get back and watch this. I was f***ing gutted when I read it was off on the BBC website at 10am!

I don't think it would be too harsh to say international sportsmen and women should get vaccinated sharpish (after the vulnerable and health workers). If we've got to stop in at least it would give us summat to watch!

Dunno why they didn't just play all six games at one venue tbh. Could have had a secure bubble at Newlands with all the hospitality boxes they've got converted to hotel rooms. Absolutely shite mis-management from CSA.

Shouldn’t really matter if it really is biosecure. The staff at the hotel were part of the bubble and thus apparently staying onsite.

Official Statement - Issued by ECB Chief Medical Officer Professor Nick Peirce

“Following the independent ratification of the two unconfirmed positive COVID-19 tests from the England camp in South Africa, the England and Wales Cricket Board can confirm that, following further testing and analysis, in the opinion of the independent virologists based in Cape Town and London, the two individuals are not infected, and do not pose any risk of passing on the infection to the rest of the party.

As such, the advice is they are now free to join the rest of the group and are no longer self-isolating.”

It looks like the series was cancelled for nothing then?

Sounds like it but no word on the hotel staff. If they tested positive I'm sure the game would have been off anyway. Can't say they didn't do the right thing.

England got this wrong for me

I have every sympathy with players at the minute, but as the SA chief medical officer said, the bubble bar was so high in English summer, its unrealistic to think that can be carried out to that level from now on. There will be the odd case, that is life, there will be cases in every industry, at every level, its almost impossible to stop. We now have a situation where if there is 1 case int he middle of a series a team could just fly home?

Also the players were staying till Thursday anyway in the bubble they didn't trust, why not just play the 2 games in 2days.

I dunno, I just think jumped the gun a bit here, I get bubble tiredness, but seems like it was Morgan who led the decision, and he did just decide to be in a bubble for 2 months for the IPL for cash

Feel for South Africa here, not sure the players would be leaving if this was India or Australia tours.

Edit:

Talking to meself here like, but nobody else to talk to

Sounds like morgan just didnt want to play the games as he is off to Australia on holiday for Christmas with his wife

I find this really poor actually, considering what Windies and Pakistan did, very selfish

He made the call by the sounds of it and the players followed.

I've not seen whatever it is you're talking about but didn't the team stay in SA as long as they were supposed to whether the games went ahead or not?
