the end of cinemas?

No one's forcing you to buy food. I've never seen the connection of sitting with popcorn and stuff. It's like people can't go a couple of hours without something instead of watching the film.

There's also nothing stopping people from taking their own stuff in (apart from hot food).
I didn’t say they are. I’m quite happy with my popcorn and drink; I’m probably now conditioned as i always do it in the house. But when you hear people saying how expensive the cinema is they will say it’s because of those things, not just because of the price of a ticket.
I do indeed live in London. Sadly too old for housemates
I’ve been misled by posters who are trying to induce me into their cauldron of hate. I apologise.

it’s strange that your thread comes out top on Google 😂

They do but it doesn’t have to be that way. Parents can always say no to the stupidly priced crap for their kids and for themselves.I take in crisps, Apple juice and tangfastics for my son, he’s quite happy with that.

It’s worrying how we got here

All depends on the parent I guess. If I had kids I’d like to think I’d just be like that. With the nieces though they end up with a pick n mix, popcorn, some stupid slush thing then a trip to get some waffles and ice cream after. But then I get to drop them off full sugar and E numbers 😂

It is. You just stay safe.

Quite like the cinema, a cheap night out. Then again I rarely go because im desperate to see something, it's always just something to do. Probably go about once or twice a month.

Warner Brothers have announced they are releasing all new films in 2021 to cinemas and HBO Max at the same time, that includes Matrix 4 and Dune. I am almost certain disney will follow suit, they have already released Mulan and Godmothered straight to Disney+. This will certainly reduce the footfall through cinema doors. That coupled with them being shut the majority of 2020 I can see lots closing their doors completely.

I am on the fence on this. I enjoy going to the cinema for the big release films, but it's once or twice a year at most and I always complain about how expensive it has became. I am happy to pay a few quid to stream smaller releases. I wouldn't pay to see them at the cinema so they would getting extra revenue from me, but there will be those that would have went, instead paying the cheaper rate and watching it at home.

Would you be bothered if cinemas all closed?
I like going but they have become extortionate. Tenner a ticket, 8 quid for nachos....

What cinema have you been to that’s cheap?
For me it would be a welcome change as I hate the cinema experience. It’s expensive, annoying listening to people eating all the way through and the chairs are uncomfortable.

However I understand a lot of people love it. My cousin goes on his own all the time to every new release. Watches pretty much everything as he just loves getting out and watching films.

I think they definitely still have a place.

yea i agree, watching avatar on the massive imax screen is loads better than my 47" TV. But the fact the first film that popped into my head like that is over 10 years old says enough.
I'm pretty sure that was the last one I went to see if you discount 'I Daniel Blake' which was required viewing for a University course I was doing:neutral:

Easy to think you sound preachy as a parent. Can’t compare uncle’ing styles with mothering styles. Apples and oranges n all that.

They still ditch me every time for their mam.

I think cinema will survive, but bizarrely I think it will be smaller ones with only a couple of Screens. The 12+ screen Multiplexes will be losing money hand over fist, with large staffing costs, high energy costs and insurance etc will struggle.

I remember years ago going to the old cinema in Darlington. One staff member took your tickets and was the projectionist. the other looked after the sweet stall. they had 2 screens, and when the film was on in one, a cleaner cleaned the other one and it worked in rotation. You could get tickets midweek for a few quid.

Sadly I think that closed, in favour of a huge new-build one that might not be viable when this blows over and most people have got used to streaming.

Try and go to the flicks once a week, nee grub or fuck all, go in bang on start time, watch flick on the medium it was made for and fuck off again.

I'll be sad if they close
I started going once a week during the day not long before lockdown, same as you no food, just in, watch the film and go (I can’t go on a night as I have my disabled daughter to look after). A fiver isn’t bad if you aren’t also spending a load of money on crap. I really miss going now and hope they survive.

The odeon kids deal thing is pretty cheap. Was £3 for a small popcorn, a packet of sweets (normally randoms) and a drink.

Been twice in about 10 years, went last year to watch Maradona at the Everyman in Newcastle, that was good like, small rooms, sofas and you can get food delivered to seats and drink beers!
Def the way forward
