Lee Johnson



Oh well. I don't know anything about him except for him spending years at Bristol. At least he wasn't booted quickly and spent several years there, so he must have a bit about him.

Some right f***ing wankers on here like 😂 kicking their toys out of the pram and saying they’re not going back coz of him getting appointed. What were they expecting? Klopp? We are in League One for the 3rd season. We can’t attract a big name.

Because Heckingbottom went on the run of a lifetime! Johnson I think is in for a hiding here, personally but getting Barnsley mid table and keeping Oldham up is par for the course, maybe a little better in Oldham’s case. Is that a good criteria for us, I don’t think so, but it’s up to him to prove us wrong now as he won’t get any leeway from the fans.
 
What concerns me is that he's never been in charge of a club serious about promotion - Oldham, Barnsley and Bristol City were wanting to pull away form relegation zone and stability, which to delivered tbf.
When he was getting close to top 6 with Bristol City, they choked - something we've seen plenty of during our time down here.

He was up against the likes of Poyet, Pearson & Keane in that poll to be fair. Most were unanimous in getting Poyet back (myself included when the news broke about his odds shortening). Those voting Parkinson would have been mags and wind up merchants I’d suggest.

If you had a poll of just Parkinson v Johnson then it’s obvious Johnson would be the winner of that poll so I won’t even discuss that point. :lol:

He sounds a lot like Brucey to me with his streaks. He’s either hot or he’s not. Reidy was similar - when it’s good, it’s good. When it’s bad, you can’t buy a win.

Think a lot said the same of Parky and look what happened, we were right, a totally uninspiring appointment who isn't good enough to turn us around because he hasn't done it anywhere else with a lot more money to spend, I'm nailing my colours to the mast and saying he won't be in charge next Christmas. Would be deliriously happy to be proven wrong but my gut feeling is never that wrong despite the happy clapper in me always trying to see the best in bad appointments.

I have no issues with his Academy based history at all, if he was being appointed Academy Manager I'd be delighted with his appointment. Seems very thorough and process orientated with a good track record of promoting players through a well trodden pathway.

If we are appointing a Director of Football as well then that helps with the niggles I have such as....

Little background in first team recruitment which is a huge issue here and he'll have to build a complete structure. Hasn't been the 'top man' as regards setting out policy or playing identity and his 14 years working under the managers Birmingham City have had doesn't make for a compelling apprenticeship in shaping a club of the size of SAFC and starting with the clusterfuck he will walk into.

I pray he's up to the task! He has my support for what it's worth!

Cowley, Cook, Pearson, Stendel - all interested. All with better records than Johnson. All with promotions in the past. Other than Sol Campbell no one else linked has such a poor record. He's never even got a team to the play offs. You normally short list and come up with a list of pre-requisites. He had none. How on earth he got an interview is beyond belief.

Only at Sunderland could we finally be rid of dreadful owners just when they were about to appoint the right management team, only to have the new owners bring in someone who is probably our worst appointment since Mick Buxton; although in fairness to Mick he had a decent track record before he came.

Pearson and Poyet would demand certain assurances regarding finance. Do you think Lee Johnson has the same bargaining power for such demands? That's what I meant but cheers for the compliment.
