Breaking ground for a 14 storey office block in Pilgrim Street in the next couple of weeks. Don’t think it’ll be suitable for HMRC like.

yeah B&K appointed by Reuben Brothers to finally develop the site. There was a strong rumour last year that HMRC were to go in there but not sure where that got to. Building is c. 120 sq ft But not sure what HMRC are/were looking at. This is only the first of a few buildings on the pilgrim st site isn’t it?

Slim chance if your a new starter.
At present though if your not working from home you may get a space

as mentioned earlier when the new parking policy comes in seniority counts for nothing....a point based system.
A point per minute and 25 points for caring and or childcare responsibilit.

Guaranteed space for car sharing

Aye, don’t think there’s going to be kids if buildings though, the first is £40m of a £100m development. Unless it’s only first phase, haven’t looked too much into it. Have prices the reception desk for the first building like.

Because of the current circumstances, the interview was one of those pre-recorded video questions things, meaning I haven't had chance to ask them myself. Thanks to everyone for their helpful contributions!

I did have to laugh at the post which suggested I bike to work, though: I should have mentioned that I live 30 miles away! Driving to the site itself would take an hour. I'd like to use the Metro so maybe it's a case of driving to one of the stops south of the river and getting the yellow line.

I don't even know if I can work from home. I'd like to, obviously, as that would remove a great deal of these issues.

When I visited there last year they were in the middle of re-evaluating the pass situation. They were moving to giving passes to those with caring responsibilities (kids, elderly) and for those who have travelled furthest. Not sure if it ever went ahead.

Looking at land near the arena , very strong rumour they will relocate

Yeah, last I heard the landlord has actually sold up (or at least part of the site). It’s a pretty prime site for property development tbh; plus Newcastle council are keen to get more office employment into the city centre. Which fits right in with the current civil service model, so it makes sense I suppose.

I heard about the arena being a possible location years ago when the whole nationwide estate move started to be considered, yet the powers above in the CS always denied the possibility of moving as simply speculation. Rubbish, the only reason why official comms have come out recently is because they’re legally obliged to because of the length of time left on the lease!

What's the job?

Used to work WvP a few years ago when consultation was ongoing. I attended many meetings and forums on the potential relocation process. A very senior manager suggested in all seriousness for staff to buy a house in Newcastle as it was 100% certain WvP was to close. You sometimes wonder why HMRC is mismanaged when advice to staff like this is given.

Any parking for staff? Just got myself a job offer, no start date for the time being but it only now occurred to me that I don't know the area at all. It's already a canny long commute so it'd be a bit of a ballache if I had to also get a metro or something.
no chance

Hopefully this is true, it's an awful place to get to.

Benton isn't an easy place to get to. But how easy is it to get to Newcastle City Centre in rush hour... then throw in another 8,000 people trying to get there. And very limited parking when they arrive.

In different cities it’s done to encourage workers to move away from private transport. But other cities don’t have the metro.

FWIR the 2 places DEFRA are using in Newcastle the leases are up soon and there's talk of moving into the city centre as supposed to down the business park (possible a Civil Service Hub for the smaller departments)

As for Parking at BPV, i'd go off the assumption you're not going to get parked on site and start looking at other ways to get there. It's bad enough already but if it still goes as planned you'll have Waterview and Peterlee staff up there eventually. Although I can see WFH staying around in some form for quite a while, our office closed last week so I was moved up there 2 months back and I've never stepped foot on the site, and I only have 2 weeks left before I leave.

Rumour has it... believe they’ve done similar else where (Liverpool?).

yeah I think pretty much all major regional cities were identified with most going into new accommodation. I wonder if the Newcastle one wasn’t announced due to lease breaks?

exactly this plus car parking is at a cost to the employer. Moving to a city centre removes that from the employer and reducing costs (albeit probably to higher rents) and also seeks to force staff onto public transport which in turn reduces the employers carbon footprint which is becoming increasingly important for business as we move to carbon neutral by 2030. i do wonder if government will start to incentives those business that seek to reduce their carbon use?
