Summerhouse/Shed

Anyone ever used any of the plastic shed bases that you fill with gravel?

Mine needs a rebuilt as the previous owner seems to have thrown it down onto soil and it is gradually warping, rotting and falling apart. I was thinking about building my own. Concrete base seems the best, but expensive. Other options are flag stones, flag stones with a hard core layer underneath, or a post and pier system (knock posts in, boards between).

Any tips on the best type to go for?

I saw a new product recently which is designed for decking. It’s a concrete block which has a cruciform recess to take either horizontal or vertical posts. You’d lay these onto a bed of suitable mortar then build a sub frame in timber so the shed is elevated slightly.

Yeah, I saw them too, does look like another option.

Does anyone have any recommendations for suppliers or installers of the above. I’m looking for something basic about 12 x 8 for the allotment, something I can use to sit/make tea in etc.
Someone has mentioned Sheds direct Sunderland, has anyone dealt with these before?
My mate is building one now - its enormous and he is busy lying to the planning department. I cant even begin to tell you whats in it!!!!!!!!!

Building regs ................................................ aye reetio!!!!!

Hopefully you don't want it any time soon...

Was looking into this a few months ago and some were already into next year for delivery

I don't think you need building regs for a detached shed but you might need planning permission if it's over a certain size.

Anybody buying a shed look at how thick the wood is. A mate bought one and the shiplap was so thin he thought they'd cut it with a bacon slicer. look carefully at what you're buying.

Northern garden sheds 22mm t&g sorted.

A summerhouse will end up unused.
i've got 2 ( i know look at me blah blah ) - one has a bed settee, heater, tv, kids play station etc and only gets used by spiders,

The other , which cost an absolute fortune- some nordic nonsense- is full of old golf and fishing gear and has never been entered for at least 3 years.

great idea but just never used.
kids off school for 6 months, great weather and they still never got used.

Their sheds are appalling like. Do people even buy them.🤭
I know they're bad a mate bought one and it was poor. He assembled it and realised it was badly made from wafer like wood. He went back to the store to complain and they said bring it back. He told them they'd have to collect it and dismantle it aswell. In the end he got his money back and they said keep the shed. His Scottish wife is an experienced complainer. They probably caved in just to get her out the shop.:D

Apparently over 30 square meters comes under building regs - but that’s just what I’ve been told so don’t go mad with me if it’s wrang. It’s a bit more than a shed to be fair.

As long as he doesn't put beds in it he'll be alright. :)
And gets a certified electrician to do the electrical.

Remember you may need planning, I’m a planning consultant and can help for £1,000s. Joe King re the money, if u let me know the dims and position I’ll let u know if you need planning, most people don’t bother.

But it could come back to bite them if they sell and need retrospective consent.

And don’t receive it.
