Summer holidays abroad

Would try and book direct rather than someone add on their cut, look for chain hotels discount if you sign up to emails H10 hotels etc

Read all the reviews of a hotel you fancy

I went on lastminute.com and even there we see a massive difference between countries in price. You don't just have to go to main sites like Jet2 and Hays. Using June 1 to June 6 duration as a parameter I went to Barcelona and the cheapest flight+hotel is £764. Go to Paris for the same time time and the cheapest flight+hotel is £309. I don't know why certain countries are ripping us off but I won't be booking through websites that is for sure. I am going to book direct through the hotel chain websites as you suggest. And I will be booking the flights separately. Whether I ought to book the flights before or after the hotel I am not sure but this is all in the event she asks me to book. She may not. In which case I will be mightily relieved.

I am sorry but European holidays is just highway robbery by another name. How is it certain countries charge far higher holiday costs than others? I am glad we are out of the EU.

Barcelona is a bit further away than Paris (probably about double the distance) so the increased amount of aircraft fuel has to be factored in for starters.

EU Holidays would actually be cheaper had we remained due to the exchange rate of the hotel price. Then expect insurance to increase if there's no reciprocal agreement on health care.

Its not so much different countries being different prices but the actual resorts. London is more expensive than Sunderland for example.

Also don't forget the longer the flight the more fuel so the more expensive (generally) . Flight to Paris is nearly twice as long as flight to Barcelona.

Holidays are cheaper doing it yourself, but if you take the current Coronavirus issue. If the hotel was in an unaffected country so remained open, but you couldn't fly. Then you could lose the money you paid on the hotel depending on their refund policies. Whereas going through a travel agent you'd get the lot back. What price do you put on protection & peace of mind?

It's the other way round.

will stay safe in australia for about a year

then see what are the safest countries to travel to if we can

if in doubt will have to put the countrys needs before mine

Due there in August and signed up for updates from the Foreign Office, all I’ve had so far is that you need to wear a mask on public transport. It’ll be Sod’s law like.
Been here for a week in Trogir which is near split, had no problems so far masks are worn on public transport and large indoor shopping areas. They seem to have local outbreaks under control as there health service is very good at detecting the virus. The health minister has said most of all cases are due to the locals attending large gatherings like weddings and that there has been no tourists involved. Hope your trip goes ahead good luck.👍

This bothers me more than anything else.
I am sure there will be rigorous testing but how many people have had trouble with car batteries due to inactivity?

Car warning lights often come on when cars are not run for a while.

It may be the same in planes however planes employ redundancy and have numerous back up systems.

TUI are also going to pay for extended stays and alternative flights as part of their packages if you are hit by a quarantine problem whilst on one of their packages. You also get almost automatic refunds if they have to cancel whereas booking independently you may have to chase them for your money.

Was fairly determined to get at least a week on a beach somewhere. However, now changing my mind. I don't particularly want to spend a fortune for a week wearing a mask in roasting temperatures, sitting in bars and restaurants with reduced menus and no atmosphere and the threat of local lockdowns. Written this year off now.

I lived in Bamburgh for much of my childhood so I am a smidge biased.
I'm thinking of moving up round there next year. Looking from Warkworth up about as for as Belford. Had a few days in Northumberland last week at my Mam's and have decided to retire back to my home county. The Mrs would prefer the North Yorkshire coast but I think the Northumberland coast is better.

Same. Put the balance payment back but its decision time now and just cancelled. If things look OK we might rebook but didn't fancy paying the balance only to be told we couldn't have a refund and had to go somewhere and wear a mask outdoors for 2 weeks.
