he’s the type of player that we, as Sunderland, should be able to afford in this league. A luxury player who’s clearly above League One, we got four clean sheets in a row with him right?

The secret is that we just need another centre back who can replace him when he’s out. A top quality championship centre back is still needed alongside this signing. Play three at the back when Bailey-Wright is fit if needed. Or just have the three of them in rotation, with Flanagan as cover.

We’ll still average crowds almost double anyone else next year, even with so many staying away. He’ll not be on crazy wages because of his injury record. With decent owners he should absolutely be a luxury we can afford and when he’s on the pitch alongside Willis, he’ll make our defense the strongest in the league.
