New Music Releases Thread

It is indeed. Got that, Paul Weller and HAIM to look forward to in the next couple of weeks.
It’s a “big” album for HAIM IMO. Their debut is in my top 3 albums of the 2010s (probably number 2) but I was really disappointed that the last one was just ok. I’m trying to avoid listening to any of the pre-release tracks (only heard the wonderful “Hallelujah”) and holding out for the album to drop.

Heard two or three tracks off the new album. Let's just say it's a bit more 'experimental' than the previous two. Looking forward to it in it's entirety.
Neil Young on Friday man.

@chriswallace85 is gonna have a belting day
Really? Belter.

Some additional odds and ends I've been listening to that came out last week

Maserati - guitary, synthy, largely instrumental, I'm going to say 'post-rock' - I like it (great for editing, which I typically use Mogwai, Ministry, Factory Floor for)
Kidbug - indie supergroup of sorts (Dumb Numbers, Best Coast, Swans, Melvins among others) - enjoyable noise rock without pushing envelopes
Beauty Pill - it's an EP, 4 tracks and a demo of one of the songs, probably "indie" but it's an odd mix of stuff - really like a couple of the tracks, a couple of others not so much
Disheveled Cuss - a bloke who's apparently played with quite a few alt/indie bands (Best Coast, Death Grips, Portugal. The Man) a bit Weezer-ish / 90s / Silver Sun / early Fannies - canny power pop
Sammy Brue - catchy acoustic-driven Americana. A little ramshackle in places - not necessarily a bad thing

A quieter week this week so less new stuff for me to report on. Nonetheless:

Coriky - Ian MacKaye's (ex-Fugazi) latest band. It's basically him, his wife and former Fugazi bassist, Joe Lally. Literate post-punk essentially and eminently listenable.
Noveller - instrumental guitar/electronica. Very dark and filmic!
Drab City - bit of a buzz band. They're vaguely trip-hoppish but with elements of Crystal Castles. Pretty enjoyable!
Built To Spill - their Daniel Johnston covers album. It's nice but tends toward saminess over 11 songs.
Masaki Batoh - the singer from Japanese psych-rock legends Ghost solo. A bit more downbeat anf folkish than Ghost but quite good.
Larkin Poe - the fifth album from the sister fronted Americana/folk rock band. This is very good. They've got some excellent pop hooks going on and, on some tracks are a bit like a female fronted Black Keys (when they weren't phoning it in).
Jehnny Beth - her solo debut. It's a very accomplished album. A mix of post-punk, piano ballads, upbeat electronic angriness and a spoken word thing from Cillian Murphy in the middle.
Wargirl - as mentioned a couple of times by @mad cyril. Very ESG/Sink Ya Teeth, maybe slightly more poppy, resembles Neneh Cherry at times.

ALbum of the week: I'll say Larkin Poe but Jehnny Beth, Coriky and Wargirl and far behind.
Novella - v. good. Larkin Poe - v.v. good. Coriky - indifferent to it tbh. Jehnny Beth - undecided, a curate's egg. Loved Rose City Band.

The Mahones have just announced their 30th Anniversary “World Tour”.

Every Saturday from 4th July they are playing an online virtual gig at the equivalent of 9pm in that country for $5 a stream. “England” is the 29th August but I might “attend” one of their European shows as they will start at 8pm our time instead of 9pm.

There are new releases tomorrow from Bob Dylan, Braids, Gum Country, Jason Mraz, Lamb of God, Maya Hawk, Neil Young, Phoebe Bridgers, Roy Ayers, Adrian Younge & Ali Shaheed Muhammad (all three together), Tayana Taylor and Sebastian Tellier.
Brilliant week for me. Neil Young and Phoebe Bridgers should be great. Will also listen to Dylan and Braids

Looks like a good week this week - I’ll be busy. Radnor & Lee and Bad Cop/Bad Cop both have albums out tomorrow as well.

Those 2, Phoebe Bridgers, Neil Young and Bob Dylan for me this week. Gum Country might be good as well if I have time.

Never knew Sebastien Tellier had a new one out but it looks like it’s on Spotify now so will listen today.
I wouldn’t say I was a Bob Dylan fan but I’ll listen to his new one as the reviews have been superb.
