Holiday cancellation refunds etc

Easyjet offered credit note for flight to France which must be accepted within 7 days if you want it. Flights are mid July and haven't been cancelled "yet"

Why did the credit card reject your claim, did they say? I've got a claim in on mine for a holiday park in Holland that are point blank refusing a refund (just a voucher).

I'll dig the letter out. I seem to remember it was because it was a hotel only booking so wasn't covered under the package holiday thing, even though:

The flights had been cancelled the day before leaving me no means to travel abroad to Malta

The FCO had issued new advice advising against all travel to Malta a few days before

The Maltese government had put a 14 day mandatory quarantine in place for anyone landing there, even though my stay was only meant to be 7 days, meaning I wouldn't be able to leave the hotel anyway as they were fining people who ignored this.

Pretty annoying really that they can refuse all of the above on grounds that it wasn't a package holiday.

I thought the whole point of the section 75 thing was that it covered things that weren't part of a package as they'll normally be refunded anyway! The way I read it was that the card company was also liable for the goods or services that you ordered but haven't received. Oh well don't hold out much hope for my claim either then!

That's exactly what I thought which is why I was so annoyed when they out right refused it pretty quickly. I'll be drafting my letter to the ombudsman this weekend and sending it Monday so hopefully that gets it sorted.

Fingers crossed you get it sorted. I got my ferry refunded straight away so that's one thing so if the park don't budge I'll need to either be almost a grand down or accept a voucher for next year and pay whatever they've upped the price to.

If it’s mid July then it’s a risk flights might be operating. Suppose they have to draw the line somewhere.

Yeah I know. Need to make a decision one way or another.

Not sure we'd definitely use the 12 month voucher on a replacement holiday in the future as cash is now tight, plus we can't really travel to France for the week in July now either with the respective quarantine rules in each country.

Is the credit definitely 12 months ? Their summer flights for 2021 come out early August so could use vouchers to book for next summer ?

Yeah it is. You don't have to travel within the 12 months, but you do have to book something by then. Basically they've made the offer and given 7 days to accept it or take your chances on a cancellation happening.

I think we'll do the latter as really can't afford a holiday next year.

I’ve feeling I will have shite decision of going or losing all money due to flights being on

If it is a refund credit note then you should be able to turn it into cash prior to the expiry date.

No sadly not, because the flight isn't cancelled. They are offering the chance to switch, which they don't really have to do if its not cancelled. They are basically covering their bases by offering you a free flight move as an insurance for them should they have to cancel and refund it.

just get your money back if it does get cancelled. they're trying all ways to not refund people. we've just had our refund for easter flights that didn't happen.

Oh aye, I'd want the cash. Its just the risk after declining this offer that the flight then goes ahead but we can't travel on it because of the quarantine restrictions.

Quarantine to & from France will be pulled by the end of June.
