New manager

We gave him a 2 and half year deal. When the job was promotion.

If he fails or failed then surely were stuck having to pay 2 years compensation a

Absolutely moronic. Manager out of work getting the chance to manage the biggest club he will ever get to manage.

Celtic have appointed managers on rolling 12 month contracts for over a decade.

Why couldn't we have offered a year deal with a 2 or 3 year extension if promotion was achieved
Be a years compo. Standard managers contract these days. Guardiola may get his full contract paid up but no one else. Not even Jose, Poch or Klopp I’d imagine.
Same here
I think there’s enough clubs within a couple of hours of Bromley for Micmac to choose from these days. He was on the rise back then But nowadays it’s the merry go round for him.
Parky will be here until the three musketears fuck off. If the next owners are equally as useless I can see us swilling around down here for another three or four years then clamouring for Jordan Henderson as manager. Hopefully he’d insist on some sort of plan. Any plan will do tbh.

I could kick myself for saying this but I think Barton would get us up comfortably.

Could you imagine how much of a laugh he'd have if we tried to appoint him, we'd never hear the end of it.

I don't think it's worth sacking Parkinson until we think about the bigger picture, recruitment, the academy and the short term vision are all major hurdles for us. Until the club is sold we are where we are, so I wouldn't sack Parky to bring in Clough, Paul Cook or any other obvious Wikipedia candidate.

It’s a risk definitely as we’d be a laughing stock if he turned us down. I just get the impression he knows how much of an opportunity it would be for him. The problem is we now have a very average league one squad having missed our best opportunity last year. A decent manager could therefore be the difference.

How can you sack Parkinson when he has not been given a fair chance to finish in the play offs or even the top 2 with the season being cut short?

We were shite. Not helped by the fact our strikers are absolutely shocking beyond belief mind.

I can see the threads now - non-league owner appointing non-league manager, totally tinpot, etc. Not disagreeing with your analysis by the way, but for too many it would be like a leaf balloon.
You're not wrong. Sad fact is if/when Barrow go up, and if they start well when next season starts, he probably wouldn't be far off getting better offers than us. We need to be realistic of our position. Far too many on here look too far up the pyramid or too far into the past for solutions.

Doubt anything will change until there's new owners at the club. As much as I would like to see Keane given a 2nd chance, I doubt he would leave the comfort of a Sky studio to come back to us. I can understand those that have mentioned SKP and I would have had him here before Parkinson but has he got it in him to manage on his own? Would he not need someone of experience to work alongside him? There's also Gus who got us to a cup final in his first season and had us playing some lovely football along the way. Sure he made mistakes, who doesn't? If we were to have new owners in place with a viable plan to get us back to the premier and to stay there then Gus would be as good as any to achieve this and he can do miracles!

Think that illustrates the underlying issue though - in that a manager heavily involved in recruitment is the exact opposite of what we should be aiming at. Trying to catch lightning in a bottle like Sheff Utd did with Wilder is highly unlikely to happen again. More likely is that we sack him within 18 months. It's way past time for us to put a proper structure in at the club and start doing things for the long term. Parkinson isn't the right manager for us - but that doesn't mean that we should keep rolling the dice till we get lucky with a manager and a group of players for a season. That sort of thing simply doesn't last
I agree, but we won't get a restructure under this ownership. Getting a manager who is well versed in an analytic approach to recruitment would not only be beneficial now, but it would also bode well if we ever do restructure the recruitment setup to a more holistic approach in the future.

While I agree you can't bottle Wilders success, saying you can't recreate his methodology is akin to clubs in the late 90s saying Wengers success at Arsenal, with his revolution against British footballing traditions, was a one off.

Best footballing practice is forever changing. As a club you can either get in board or be left behind.

I really would implore anyone to listen to the Ian Evatt Tifo podcast. It's not only his football philosophy thats impressive, but his management of people and his ability to improve his players on and off the pitch is something I'd like to see at Sunderland.

Irrespective of how our season ends, or if Parkinson gets shunted, what makes the OP believe that Kevin Phillips should be employed as our next manager, he has zero managerial experience.
Genuine question by the way.
Every manager that has ever managed in the game had zero managerial experience before they got their first job.

I'd rather appoint someone who at least gives hope he could be a good manager. Currently we have a bloke who we all know doesn't give us any hope. I still can't believe we sacked Ross and Phil Parkinson was the best we could get. The dullest least inspiring managerial appointment since Mick Buxton.

I thought it was just because he was the cheapest option but then he managed to worm a longer contract out of Donald which must be costing the club a fair wedge.

averaging 1.94 points a game over the last sixteen.

Twitter generation: let's sack him because he hasn't won in April or May!
