New buyers put off by £20 million hole in accounts

Yes, I agree. I've been going to the match since 1974 and can't remember a worse time.
1. We were expecting a young, vibrant, hungry squad - we've got a bunch of plodding journeymen in Grigg, Power, McLaughlin (the RB), Lafferty, Maguire etc. There are only 3 players in the first team who I value - Gooch, O'Nien, Willis.
2. We have a manager who is about as inspirational as Mick Buxton (probably the other real low). He came with an appalling career win rate of 36% (the worst of all those linked) and has somehow, after 30 games, worsened his own win rate. Donald keeps shouting that we have the highest paid squad in the Division - well he needs to acknowledge that Parkinson delivering 7th or 8th - a worse position than he inherited from Ross - is abject failure. Does Donald believe he has the man to deliver promotion next year? I highly doubt it.
3. It is apparent that we had one of the most promising group of 15/16 year olds for a long time. They have now been touted about to the big boys and sold for maybe £1.5M - we will never see that money and I presume this will benefit Donald only. Effectively he has flogged off the family jewels that took 7 or 8 years to develop.
4. Despite the utter failure listed above Donald wants to get a fat profit out of this, to the extent that potential buyers are put off.
In clearing the debt Donald was given a golden opportunity and has squandered it. I defy anyone, even Donald or Methven to give me one single reason to optimistic. And hope is all we cling to as football fans.
Absolutely spot on!

I’ve no doubt you do marra, but you won’t have a bad word said against them, that’s the issue. These blokes have made a right shit job of this football club, we are a laughing stock yet you think they deserve more time and constantly defend their decision making. I know the damage is already done but someone decent will put us right, these f***ing idiots aren’t those people
More time will send us further down the leagues

The elephant in the room for me is that there's no one who wants us who'd put in more money than the current owners.

There are only so many billionaires and you need them to be mates with someone who loves SAFC, that's the only way it'll happen, FPP don't sound like they're interested in owning us outright so we either bring more investors on board with FPP and MSD or we continue to limp along.
I would counter that and say the owners don't need to put lots of money in. If they run it properly anyway.

Our owners have taken 20 million out! TWENTY MILLION POUNDS. And destroyed our future by selling children.

The damage is done, but frighteningly things are on the brink of getting much worse.
we have a number of out of contract player(approx 10 many of whom wont be missed) but these position need back filling
parachute payment money has now gone (a significant proportion of which has disappeared/been loaned ) hence our remaining overheads just got harder to cover
Social distancing, potential 2nd wave ,and behind closed door games --- severely reduced match income
...and still the club is being quoted as being valued at £35m. its clear the paradox between football new reality and the regime hopes and greed are a cancer that left unchecked is potentially dooming us
the next potential generation of sunderland fans are not being given the chance to buy into a club that has a future or even momentum

The main point that I have a bit of an issue with is point 4 about the academy. The academy should not be viewed as a weight around our necks. It should be the shining light of the club, and the cat 1 status was hard earned. IMO running that down and losing that status would be the height of mismanagement.
If they manage to lose cat 1 status due to their incompetence we should storm the f***ing gates tbh

Pointless paying £10m to keep cat 1 status if you flog any decent prospect at the first sign of an offer. The damage has been done there and people will still lap it up. “What more could we do?”

The one real asset for SAFC was the recruitment and development of future players through the academy. Instead the charlatans in charge continue the piss taking party with other clubs garbage and mercenaries!

This.

We don't know the truth because everything we've heard has been second or third hand, and we may be doing the owners a disservice?

But if the rumours are true "we sold children to financially keep our heads above water".

And in the process gutted the academy and put us in danger of losing its Cat 1 status, or given what @MADBOB THE MAKEM said its running costs are so much that its an albatross around our neck and it'll be a relief to have a failing academy lose its status.

If only the good mate of the owner getting f***ing paid to run it lived less than 300 miles away he might have been able to do something about this?

but the slash and burn maximise potential sales profit is robbing of the next generation of home grown players... many of whom will end up at NUFC/Boro further a field
that is both tragic and scandalous... we are literally robbing ourselves to indulge the greed of our current owners

the rumours of the club being run on shoestring everywhere have been doing the rounds since last Sept

If its finishing then we will get exactly what we deserve (well, not us- Donald). How have we gone backwards from sacking Ross when 6th man? Utterly appalling but a ready-made get out of jail card for Parkinson.

I 100% agree, it appears that the accumulation of terrible decision making and lack of leadership and lack of finances is coming together with the Covid-19 situation to produce an absolute shit-storm for the club at the worst possible time.
