Q Magazine's Future In Doubt

I seem to recall it was always a fairly chunky mag (number of pages wise). I've started getting it as a freebie from Lloyd's bank and its now thin as owt. Certainly not worth a fiver.

Future of Q magazine in doubt as coronavirus crisis hits media

I've always found Q a bit dull but suspect that this could start a domino effect.
Used to enjoy it when it first came out. Read it when I was in hospital last year and found it dull, albeit I'm a bit out of touch with some of the music.
A lot of the writing seemed to be more about the writers trying to make an impact in a few words rather than it telling us anything about what they were listening to.

I suppose there’s only so many times you can do the making of what’s the story morning glory. It’s declined so much over the years, used to read it cover to cover even if I wasn’t a fan of the interviewees, lucky I finish reading it nowadays. Shame.

Are magazines like this even a thing anymore? I remember the mid to late 90s and when FHM/Loaded were in their pomp. I suppose the growth in digital media helped kill these magazines off. Used to like Q and Esquire if I wanted to pretend to be a grown up, or got bored of seeing Gail Porter's arse

I reckon a part of it is because the sales dwindle they don’t have the money to employ the best writers and do the best features. So the magazine gets shitter, less people buy it, and on it goes...

I think you're getting Q mixed up with something else. It's a music magazine, not a lad mag or style mag.

Bought it from the first issue, but as time went by it started to get a be repetitive so I stopped buying it . Never buy any magazines now as I just use the internet for information.

It used to be a canny read 20 years ago, but it’s been dog shit for the last 10 years or so. Mojo was always a better read imo.

I bought a few Q magazines over the years but not for a long time simply because music has changed and I still prefer the 80s. Used to get NME, Melody Maker, and Record Mirror every week. These days I occasionally buy Long Live Vinyl and Classic Pop but only if there is something in there that interests me.

I subscribed for years but like other people have already said the content became repetitive, so I moved to Mojo.

been shite for years, coldplay , snow patrol, bastille etc was their idea of cutting edge new music
I'd imagine that as the circulation dropped they tried to write stuff with a bit more mass appeal, but as has been mentioned it all becomes a bit bland.

You're right like, the only time I really look at magazines now is when I'm hanging about in the airport and the quality of most of them is absolute dogshit. Even the daft footy ones the bairn has had before are about £4 a pop and there's nowt to them.

Publishers will moan about content going online but they do themselves no favours.
