My weekly digest of new and newish stuff I've listened to over the last 4 days:
The Dears - solid, reliable, dependable, pretty good. Not exactly doing anything new.
Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith - ambient goodness. Vocal samples at times, interesting.
Moses Sumney - half of this was out already and was excellent. The second half is up to the standard.
Jason Isbell - mentioned on another thread. Very good, well written country rock.
Sparks - enjoyable and witty, some cracking tunes.
The Magnetic Fields - lots of short songs. Probably the closest thing in spirit they've done to 69 Love Songs in the 20 years or so since that came out.
Jess Williamson - spacey, shoegazey Americana. Good.
Perfume Genius - a lot more muscular than the early albums and clearly aimed at the broadsheet market. In saying that, I think it's extremely good.
Sleaford Mods - a compilation of rarities, remixes etc. As such a bit of a grab bag with something for everyone, except maybe your dad.
Willie Nile - veteran singer-songwriter. This is a hybrid of Americana and antifolk. It's really good indeed.
Cavern of Anti-Matter - electronica, a soundtrack, good but probably not as good as the proper albums.
Sei Still - excellent motorik debut from Mexico.
Maita - enjoyable female singer-songwriter album. Won't change your world but a pleasant listen.
Rose City Band - the modern masters of the smooth choogle return. Maybe a little more country than their debut. Great!
Album of the week: a toss up between The Magnetic Fields and Rose City Band.
