The Last Dance - Netflix

Basketball has a global appeal and that is mainly due to Jordan undoubtedly.
like you say and it’s a good point, you wouldn’t class say Bradman, Warne or Jonah Lomu as the greatest sportsman ever due to not enough countries participating seriously enough in their sport. To me exactly the same applies to Jordan and basketball.

Jordan is a phenomenon ,almost super hero like and a global legend but unfortunately for him the sport is dominated by one nation with no international stage to shine on. The 92 Olympics as great as it was, was in reality exhibition stuff.

To me, to take the title of worlds greatest sportsmen you need to dominate globally at international level against participants from all four corners of the globe.

I would suggest that the NBA is just that, it is the world stage where all the best basketballers in the world come together to compete against each other. The quirk with basketball is that you can't just have a stacked team of amazing players all on the same team as well, due to the salary cap. So other than Pippen he never really had that world class supporting cast that say a Messi or Ronaldo have to play with.

ive always admired the salary cap and draft system they have in the states. Also not the constant demand for transfers with greedy agents etc. We could learn slot from that over here.

Fair play to Steve Kerr swinging first. Giving away 3 stone and 3 inches of height against a freak athlete. Better him than me.
Rodman could have his own series. Apparently they sent Kerr after Rodman to retrieve him from a night out and they got back to the hotel an hour before practice started the morning after. He still had to do practice.
The night would blend into the month man 😀

They sent Jordan to get him back. He found him with carmen Electra.

It's a great system, and I think could be implemented with success with any team sport that has money flowing through it. The only issue is that NBA, NFL, NHL and MBL are the dominant championships in their respective sports by far so would be harder to do where you have multiple series across different countries.

Mad that a system rooted in socialism is so popular in America.

Good point, yeah it would be hard to do a draft in football where it’s such a global sport.
Also didn’t look at it as a socialist point but again it’s a very good point.
out of interest, can a college student refuse a draft and hold out for a different club or is that your chance ??

If it's like the NFL then you can refuse and re-enter the draft the next year. I believe you can also be instantly traded to another team if the offer comes in (as happened with Eli Manning).

In theory yes, and there has been some stories of this happening. I'm pretty sure when Kobe was drafted there was a story that he was desperate to play for the Lakers and teams interested in him were told that if they picked him he would he would go to Italy (where he spent his childhood) and play there for a year.

I think most rookies are just so happy to have made it to the NBA (or whatever sport they choose) that they will go where they are told. Definitely a different dynamic to our way of doing things, with only the top players really having a say in where they play.

aye just wearing a towel :)
And a git massive smile I reckon

He was drafted by Charlotte who are utter toilet and they traded him for a few draft picks which they completely wasted.

Looking forward to watching. LeBron is the best basketball player ever though

what makes you think that mate ?

I don’t know the game but since watching the doc I’ve read up on it quite a bit and everybody to a man gives it to Jordan.
