Stay where we are ...no question.
Location Location Location.
That's why we got The rugby world cup opening ceremony.
Every survey I have seen for away fans we are near the top
It is lopsided. . But it's a fantastic stadium.
Never move I say
are you on drugs? seriously, its a crumbling shit-hole, even some of your own fans admit it. If you want your new owners to take you to the very top level, they will go for a new stadium as a priority, and with the space around SJP being nowhere near big enough, it means a move out of town. I expect its already been agreed.

Well according to reports its the Saudi public investment fund, which manages a fund of 260 billion, which is managed by the runt. Joining with the Reuben brothers worth £18bn.

Interesting then, despite this massive wealth, that they need to be part of a consortium. If you're in for investing loads into a club, why would you willingly give away 20% of it when you can afford to buy it outright?

If it was a crumbling shit hole as you say....how does it hold too sporting events.
It does need some TLC. But it's a fantastic stadium....and it's location is ideal.....as for being big enough...I would think 60.000 would be enough
There must be a way of getting another 8000 .

Because they are backward savages so probably get her to be the face of it.

Rich work for equity usually not a wage.

I got that it was joke, no hostility intended.

Re. the other point. I'll try and keep it brief and light.
Whilst what they do with the laws in their own country, it's centuries behind, it's not good at all. It does sit uneasily.
Had Newcastle under Ashley aggressively ambitious or moderately succesful how he runs his other businesses would never have been an issue.
With the Saudis, they will do what they are doing whether or not they own Newcastle, any other club, or no club at all. Fans of the club support the club no matter who the owner is or what they do.
These arab states are all portrayed in a bad light, but thousands of uk workers go out there to work. Clearly these have no issue with the background of these regimes, or if they do, they still take the money and work for them.

With them buying into a football club, it'll be easy for fans to separate "back home" from what's happening at their club, as long as the club does well. All most football fans care about is how their team does. They're all hypocrites as well.

Sportswashing is rife, F1, the World Cup, boxing, PSG, City, etc etc.
It is happening, and will continue to happen.
I don't think I've ever had a problem with middle eastern investors in European clubs, but I have moaned about the Qatar world cup, so put me on the hypocrisy list as well.

Ultimately with the Saudi PIF looking to move into football, I'm glad it's at Newcastle and not somewhere like Birmingham, Villa, Leeds, Sheff Wed, Brighton, Sunderland etc.
We might achieve absolutely nothing, might end up like City. Probably be closer to Everton. But I'd still rather it was us than somebody else. I think most fans outside the top 6 or 7 teams in the country would welcome it.
I'd also probably be putting the boot in if it was another club. Football fans are mainly fickle and hypocritical. If we were all principled we would've knocked it on the head when players were earning 50k a week, but now when there's players on half a million a week it's more popular than ever.

Assuming it even happens.
I agree with most of that mate. TBH, I'm jealous and worried. I'm jealous because you will break into the top 6 just like Wolves have done. I'm worried that the gap between us is going to be wider than it was in the 90's. We had the chance of being one of the richest clubs in the world and that's looks like it's gone. If we had honest decent owners I wouldn't be as worried.

As for sportwashing, it rip throughout sport. Boxing, WWE, UFC and F1 all seem to want the Arab dollar. It's something that needs to addressed and we can't keep ignoring it. But the Saudis are our "friends" and the "good guys". It would be interesting to see if a Russian billionaire with links to Putin wanted to buy your club would the media reacted differently because they are seen as "the bad guys". I agree that we would turn a blind eye to Saudis human rights record if it was us. That's the main issue here.

Stay where we are please. Very few city centre stadiums left and we are lucky with what we have.

It needs some TLC like as it’s beginning to look really jaded in some parts.

Always thought Newcastle and our stadium are in class locations for away fans. Walking distance from where all the bars are in the centre and 10 minute or less walk from the train stations.

Can’t really see how any more seats could be added. It’s at maximum capacity and is in need of serious money spending on it just to keep it in a reasonable state. I’m basing that on comments and articles from Newcastle supporters who have been complaining about Ashley not carrying out maintenance over recent years.

Whilst TV revenue is great at the moment, match day revenue, especially corporate makes a substantial difference to club funding. The money generated at Spurs, Liverpool, Man Utd, etc.. on match days must be mind blowing. Realistically, you need a minimum 60,000 stadium if you want to compete with the big lads unless the new owners are prepared to spend the foreseeable future simply throwing in 10’s of millions each year to compensate, but you’d think they’d only do this if they knew plans were in place to become self sustaining, like at Man City who are expanding.

Obviously the the town moor is out of the question as this has already been knocked back, and if you move further away, you loose the appeal of having a central location. Sunderland are probably the only club who when looking at redevelopment or moving were able to acquire a more central location, probably the only bit of luck we’ve had in recent years.

They’d have to move it somewhere else, possibly back out of the city centre
How about lizards point. Plenty unused land down there.
Perhaps they could do a deal to knock this down (Leazes Terrace) in exchange for a massive donation.
They are listed buildings mate. It would more of a chew on than just launching a few quid around.

Could a Leazes Park development not be back on the table? It seems underused and undermaintained these days. I'm sure I read the Arena is due to be flattened at some point too, could there be enough space there for a new ground? Both still central locations.

do you really think they would carry out a redevelopment project for only 8000 extra seats? especially when they had to give away 10000 free season tickets this season. not happening i'm afraid. I think you underestimate these Saudis, everything they become interested in is a cock-waving exercise, if they're going for it they'll be going for it big-time. Everything bright, shiny and NEW. kiss goodbye to Gallowgate, and start looking at sites 10 times bigger. ( But not the Town Moor-that'll never happen)

Serious question for the thousands of mags who infest this site. St James’ was described as a lop sides carbuncle by previous owner John Hall and with the new stadia shooting up, Man City, Arsenal, Spurs, etc..., it’s starting to look a little sad to say the least.

If this takeover goes ahead and the new murderous regime decide to throw obscene amounts of blood money at the club, would you want them to flatten St James’ and build a more visually appealing stadium fit for the 21st century, or are you quite happy to keep the lop sided carbuncle?
Personally speaking I'd like to see the stadium given a spruce up.

Can't be any fairer than that. 👍

My preference would be that they refurbish what we have. This would be subject to a mysterious fire having broken out behind the East Stand. The now derelict street would no longer be a barrier to continuing the Milburn - Leazes sections along the East Stand. That would suffice.

Otherwise bribe the Freemen of the city and do what we should have done years ago.... built a new stadium on Town Moor.
The proposal to build a new ground on the town moor comes up every few years, hopefully it’ll be resisted this time too (if it’s made). Personally, I would have thought a better training ground would have been further up the list of priorities for the Mags.
