Top players have been happy to play in Liverpool and Manchester, so why not Newcastle?
Manchester may be thrice the size and have a huge airport, but it isn't exactly a great beauty bathed in golden sunlight.

The social life in Manchester and Liverpool is different. Even going out into the city centre, Newcastle wise it’s a goldfish bowl.

Yes. I think if the owners are seriously minted and want to be serious contenders, they’ll bring in their own people or appoint someone with previous knowledge.

It’s a risk to a club any size putting someone with no experience (I don’t think she has any) of running a football club.

Manchester City hired someone with no experience of running a football club. I've got no reason to doubt her credentials.

She's not going to be making football-related decisions imo, she doesn't have the experience.

You've made comparisons with Real Madrid and now Paris St Germain in the last two minutes. Talk about getting ahead of yourself!

No I haven't at all. Just talked about the influence money can have. I don't even think our takeover will happen, I refuse to believe it until it's happened as we have been here (not this far) many times.

But these people are talking about money. Also in respect the the quality of players- there’s been no elite players in their prime moving to China.

But the point stands the money paid over there can’t be paid in the PL for that kind of player. No european team is going to pay Oscar 400K a week.
I would say Oscar, Carrasco & Pato

The China argument is irrelevant as i'm talking about top class players moving to the PL from elsewhere.

The argument that Newcastle couldn't get these, when theres evidence of it happening at other clubs, is daft.

I agree on that. On a different note, do you think she’d be keen on the limelight? Drinking with the fans etc or keeping her distance?

Agreed. Thats why HE went there. You could potentially get players like idk Mertens (just as good) and probably pay them 250k though. Which is a huge jump in quality.

The closest to 'elite' player you will find I'd argue is Carrasco - he had a very good few seasons at club level and internationally before he moved.

I'd hope the latter. I f***ing pray she doesn't take to twatter or podcasts like your owner does, I've always felt that's proper amateurish.

She'll keep her distance imo. Hope so, anyway.

Don't want amateur behaviour like spilling everything on podcasts. Mike Ashley was an enigma before he took over Newcastle.

Not really. The mags are understandably buzzing. While it's pretty obvious it's going through, I think there's definitely legitimate questions about who is actually involved and how much money they'll be investing.
It’s awful man. Chomping like fuck and they’re laughing like fuck right back. That’s why there’s as any mags on here as us. They’re not legitimate questions, they’re people sat on here refreshing this thread waiting for the worst. It’s not a good look

The Mags are the richest club on the planet. Let that sink in.

I am paraphrasing from a New York Times article (I think) I read earlier in the year.

It perhaps goes some way to explaining the motives and machinations behind this implausible event to some.

Rightly or wrongly there is a certain romanticism associated with Newcastle United that transcends to be greater than the way they are perceived now.

The catalyst was Keegan to any follower of the advent of the Premier league, as it went global, through the early years of the new century and the Bobby Robson era.

Any rich prospective owner of a football club with that hindsight would probably see Newcastle United as a status prize.

The miracle is that Ashley invested nothing in the Newcastle brand, his modus operandi is to strip brands bare. Yet after all that, the appeal of Newcastke

I’m not taking the piss here but you can guarantee the chronicle will have a pull out of her drinking a bottle of broon and saying Wey aye, or some other cheese fest!

If (still huge) this goes through, she'll do an interview with George Caulkin or similar and that will be more or less all you hear from her. I don't expect her to engage the local newspaper at all.

Has Ashley ever done it?

Like Methven feeling the need to say Sunderland are bigger club than Newcastle  Same way our new players are made to howay the lads. It's all cringey as fuck.

sitting in the bait room and they've started singing 'Amanda Staveley' to the tune of 'In the Navy'.

it also seems that we aren't the only ones who speed up songs either....

It’s a done deal in my eyes.

Not sure about Ashley, I don’t think he trusts many people but he did sink pints in the away end with you lot before it turned sour.

hopefully all the journalists are wrong - but IF Saudi state money is buying 80% then I’d expect nothing less than Man City levels of investment.

Having spent quite a bit of time out there I would expect NUFC will become an extension of Saudi National pride and they will be anticipating success within a Champions League context.

Can’t understand why they didn’t go for a bigger club but they won’t be getting involved for Premier League mid table stability.
They went for man united didnt they

Conversely, whether it be a previous SAFC manager declaring in August that his team were relegation candidates, or the manager of a neighbouring club putting 11 men behind the ball at home and conceding 80 per cent possession, if a leader’s body language is negative then the battle is already lost

Probably true to be fair.
