Those polls definately exist, and there's nothing "so called" about them, they're all polls even when they have used poor samples or leading question. In those circumstances they're just "shit polls" .

Just noticing more and more people getting caught up in these theories. Good friend of mine seems to be obsessed with it and it seems to be getting out of hand. He’s always had an interest, but has bought the whole 5g/vaccines/health risk one hook line and sinker. He goes on about it constantly and sends me videos related to it, which I watched a few of before trying to explain there’s no scientific evidence or referencing etc in them. Actually getting a bit concerned for his welfare. Anyone dealt with similar? Any suggestions? He’s generally a pretty intelligent bloke so I’m perplexed how this has come about. Cheers
 
I think it’s got Michael Schumachers name written all over this. Clearly worried that Lewis Hamilton will eventually overtake him as the greatest driver of all time he’s spent all that time in Austria devising a plan to stop him.

I think people who go all in on them are significantly lacking in some aspect of their life and expressing the belief in something so different gives them a sense of uniqueness and helps elevate them in their own mind.

Like those with a very little social circle who spend a lot of time online in general but long for a little more. The belief in conspiracy theories gives them a sense of belonging to a group but also explains to them why they don't fit in with large parts of society, because society is wrong and they are right.

My advice wouldn't be to argue with him but do converse with him about other things.

Completely agree. Think I've said similar in past on another thread. There was a good BBC article on this a few years back (although that would no doubt be blasted as corrupt as it's the BBC..).

He’s proper social, that’s the weird thing. Just concerned how obsessed he’s becoming with all this 5g stuff. Try and talk about anything else, yet it always swings round to this. Before it wasn’t a problem cause I’d just say rightio, I’m off home!

There's been some decent stuff on the BBC about it over the years, on TV and Radio.

It's a crude comparison but I find it similar to the goth culture in the 90's, many people, consciously or not, fulfilling their need to stand out whilst also being part of a group. No surprise to find those in either groups were at a higher risk of mental illness. Loneliness is awful.

There was a study in 2017 (it was rather pseudo scientific) that linked mental health and conspiracy theorists.
