Nah. Do you dislike Seinfeld because that was often filmed in a diner and not a pub?

I dislike friends cos it was a comedy for lasses & not that funny. The coffee shop thing I just found unrealistic & was done to make it safe & PC, as there was an episode where they were preaching that drinking is bad. Comedy is supposed to be a bit edgy & not happy clappy like friends was. (owa lass watches it so have seen a few episodes)

Oh ok, just your use of ‘is’ rather than ‘was’ threw me.

The ‘set in a bar’ thing had already been done with ‘Cheers’ at that point, audiences needed a change.

If you want to watch a twenty-something group sitcom show set in a bar you need it’s vastly inferior rip-off ‘Coupling’.

Not twenty-somethings but try "Early doors" if you haven't seen it. Great British comedy.

I think that's the 'Fun Bobby' episode. He was always in great form, because he had drink taken. Then he had no drink taken, so he wasn't fun anymore. I'm slightly embarrassed that I know this.

& anyway, drink is fanfuckingtastic.

*hic*

Aye, that sounds like the one.

Comedy can be whatever makes people laugh tbf, just because it doesn't fit in your 'edgy' demographic doesn't mean it can't be called comedy.

I wouldn't call the likes of Only Fools & Horses edgy and that's one of the most popular British comedies of all time.

EDIT - It's already been pointed out but you've missed the point on the episode you mention.

American comedy is very much different to UK comedy they need a punchline every 30 seconds

OFAH was about a family who lived on the edge of the law, of course it had an edge to it. It lost its way later on when it went down the friends route of all relationships & that like many do when they run out of ideas. Sitcoms should stop after about 3 series.

Oh and friends relying on catchphrases which died out over here in 80s

'Edgy' comedies don't go out at primetime on BBC1. If you think OFAH is edgy I dread to think what you'd make of some of Chris Morris' output.

Ross is best in the later episodes when they make him a bit of a parody of himself rather than the uptight geek he is in earlier episodes. The white teeth, fake tan and leather trousers episodes are great.

I agree, he was by far my favourite character by the end. So many great episodes with him in.

Aye you don’t get much more PC than casual sex, being mentally scarred by a mother who killed herself, being groped by your tailor, poking fun at childhood obesity, faking your own death to prove you’re popular, shagging your dad’s best mate, and telling unknowing children they are adopted.

Aye, but Del Boy once sold some Chinese fella's tunnel paint. Doesn't get more edgy that that.
Also Friends got a bit of a slating after it was retrospectively judged against today's standards when it surfaced on Netflix last year.
