Save Seaburn

Away though bob. Putting them type of businesses in the stack ain’t gonna bring people flooding in. Seems to me once again the council will have an half empty building or half full whichever way you look at it. And if it’s not bringing in footfall the food stalls won’t stay long.
So what do they put in to compliment the food and drink? It's not like they can fit a theme park in a sea container.

I've never been to the one in Newcastle but looking at their website there is a barbers, vape shop, phone shop, jewellery shop, perfume shop, flower shop and a 'dog hoose'.
plenty of hairdressers in sea road
You know full well that's not Seaburn.

Your solution being......?
Unfortunately I’m not a councillor but it would be better flattened and houses built. It’s the the only hope for that place now.

All houses. Town houses, flats, semis and detached. I can’t see the point in putting stuff there that’s already failed.
possibly not but it may keep the development active throughout the day rather than just intermittently (clearly I could be wrong)?

also do the people of Seaburn want loads of tourists or people coming to the site? Presumably as long as its a decent offer that the local residents and those in the wider catchment want, and is sustainable, then surely that’s ok?
But that’s the whole point. The puff and billy failed. The what ever it was called after failed. Within a mile of the place businesses have slipped away or changed hands like the fair way, the pub on dove dale, the windmills. Fat Buddha changed hands over the road. All I’m saying is that these establishments will have to be good to satisfy the residents of sr6 as proven if it’s not up to scratch it’s gone. Where as housing on prime sea front land can’t fail.
The council obviously agreed but local residents never. How anyone can think this council are good must be crackers like. As soon as a local group of busy body residents get together the council shit themselves. Some nimby as actually managed to find a fault in the drainage system that would have been terrible for the environment not to mention the residents of a brand new development.

I agree with you that housing was the way forward but the issue with politics now is that you are meant to deliver what those who shout loudest want...look at Brexit for instance. Sadly cllrs make decision on matters by how many votes they get and not on what’s in the best interest of the area - that goes for both those in power and those in opposition.

in terms of failing businesses I don’t think we should mind that too much well at least not until there is no longer any businesses willing to have a go.

I but the amount of business wanting to have a go will get less surely. Hopefully not mind.

With global warming the houses at the sea front will be underwater in a couple of decades if the so called experts are right.

of course, but most thriving cities have a number of business which fail. Ideally the city somehow needs to encourage entrepreneurship.

fair point. Same would be true for any development on the sea front.

There is loads of little businesses atthe one in Newcastle.

Been to Newcastle one once, looked like the outside was all the various businesses, the inside surrounding the courtyard was all the food and drink places.
Seems to make sense.
