Elgar would be our best opener
Philander is retiring but has over 200
wickets @ 22
De Kock is far better than any of our keeper/batsman
Maharaj would be our best spinner
Rabada replaces anyone, he's one of the best bowlers in the world

Of course they do. Elgar is a good opener, way better than both our openers. Philander on form is better than Curran. Maharaj is probably better than our spinners. Rabada is the best bowler in the series, so would be in above all our seamers. De Kock is massively better than Buttler.

Problem with them is their other 6 aren’t up to much

De Kock is not a close call in the slightest

Rabada averages 22 in test cricket man

Maharaj is debatable but he’s got 100 test wickets at 28

Elgar averages 38? Aye, we’ve cried out for that. Let’s not pretend any of our openers are settled yet
 
England giving themselves a real good chance of potentially winning the Test Championship if they beat SL and clean up at home this summer.
 
Where was Bavuma for the first three tests?

I take it he never really kicked on from the century against us at Cape Town.

Quite difficult to tell due to the format, but if we clear up at home, we can catch whoever loses between India and Australia. Get to the final and then you’ve got a home test to win it, got to give us a massive chance at it

Before the series started and after the first test I would have said Elgar. Not now though.

In that case Botham and Gough should get in the current test team then

Have you seen anything from Philander in this series to suggest he is good enough to get in ahead of Anderson, Broad, Archer, Wood, Woakes or Curran? I'm not talking about his history, I'm talking about today, If you were selecting a mixed team from the squads on display...

Comparing apples and oranges. A batsman's average can fluctuate wildly in the first few tests. Elgar averages 38 from 60+ tests. Which shows he is nothing more than an average batsman. Burns has played 15 tests

And Burns will hopefully get better. But let’s not pretend he has really achieved yet, albeit is improving

if you honestly wouldn’t see Rabada or QDK playing then I won’t even bother discussing it with you

Great stance on an argument - "if you don't agree with me then I won't have a discussion" :lol: :lol:

Rabada is very good, but who does he replace in the England attack? Archer? Wood? Anderson?
De Kock again, very good but he's no Gilchrist. His average is only a few more than Bairstow so let's not pretend he's some sort of world beater
