McGeady

Despite his greediness he was very effective for most of last season and we shouldn't forget that contribution but there's no doubt we are functioning as a team much more effectively without him.
He was...however. I wish I had the data/time/ability to analyse how often he took on a thirty yard raker and ignored an easy pass. At the end of the day, whilst we all love a screamer they very rarely go in. We’d always be better off trying to create better chances inside the 18 yd box.

I bet those shots won us quite a few points. People need to move on and stop trying to rewrite history. He did well for us last season, not so much this season yet was still joint top scorer when he was bombed out.

Sure they did. However how often did his faffing on the ball mean we missed out on creating better chances that could have turned 1-1 into 2-1? I know it’s theoretical but it speaks to how football is going. Having mavericks in your team is good if you know they help more than they hurt. And I’m certain that this incarnation of safc isn’t nearly clever enough to ask those sorts of questions or analyse beyond what you can see on the surface of things. He’s got so much natural talent that he absolutely should be unstoppable in this league. Tunnel vision and a lack of team play may hurt us rather than helping us, though.

33 year old, high wages, been bullying younger players, can't understand why clubs aren't falling over themselves to sign him ! FTM

I'm struggling with this one too. :)

If he's been bullying younger players then couldn't he be sacked for gross misconduct or are we hanging onto his contract in hope of getting a fee.

We might be playing better without him, but that's more to do with the intensity Parkinson has us playing with than him not being in the team. It's not like we'd have played like this if Ross had just dropped him.

Is he actually training? ...would like to hear Barnsey ask big Phil ( as it seems like everything is now his responsibility) For a prospective buyer , someone would want to know at 32 or so , how long would it take him to get match fit .Quite a while would be my guess , it's a while since he kicked a ball in anger .
He's training with the u23s

We play a lot better without him. He slows us down.

I think that's a myth. I'm unsure how he can slow us down considering he's not a slow player and was very direct at times.

This. Posters are now trying to defend the decision by ssying he slowed things down all of a sudden. I actually welcomed Mcgeady's efforts as at the time few other players were shooting when given the chance.

Agree. He was excellent last season and whilst he does often hold onto possession rather than lay it of, 9 times out of 10 there was an end product.
Clearly Ross getting sacked has changed his attitude on and off the pitch as he's contributed nothing this season. Feels like the right time to part ways

Our current form is built on sand, a couple of injuries to key players and we don't have the squad depth. Having McGeady available if Mcguire and or Gooch gets injured would be beneficial. Would like to think everyone put their differences aside for the greater good, although I think that point has passed unfortunately.

Shame as Mcgeady seemed pretty settled in the area and we did extend his contract in the summer, so has a year and half left.

His agent will be saying stay put, let Sunderland believe they have to pay your wages for the remainder of the season, he has the upper hand.
If he doesn’t believe in himself or his talent, it’s daft to move on, unfortunately..
It’s not if they do a similar deal to Oviedo or Cattermole

The football is much more fluid now than it was with him in the side. Everything had to go thru him and at 32/33, he was never going to consistantly keep up the levels needed for us to win games. Now the play is evenly spread between the front 3 and we're not as predictable.

Having McGeady coming off the bench would be great but its clear hes burnt his bridges here now. Tell his agent that the club dont want a fee and hopefully its enough for soneone to take a punt on him.

This. I hope he's working his socks off in training with a view to getting back into the team if no move materialises this month. I'd love to think we're building a momentum that has the other teams shitting themselves about playing us again. Most teams in this league have seen what he's capable of so you can imagine their hearts sinking if we bring him on in the second half of a close game. Unfortunately I can't help thinking he'll continue to play Billy Big Bollox and just turn up and collect his wages with no effort to build bridges.
