De Bok gone, McGeouch gone. McNulty & McGeady next.

Hope we’re not going to pursue our targets one by one all month only to get to the last few days of the window and find they’ve all gone elsewhere.

to Rotherham Wycombe and Doncaster our real rivals now...

We should have had a list of targets ready well before the window opened, could even talk to the clubs about availability for this window.
No reason to have a deal done in principal before the window opens.
Then just crack on getting the deals signed and stamped first working day back in Jan.

Or you could run the club adhoc hoping a cheap bargain will be offered before the end of Jan.........

Doesn’t work like that sadly because there is often competition flushed out by clubs and agents and clubs look for replacements and check they have no injuries before losing players from their squad (except us who sell early then look desperate and over pay)

Depends how you are doing it, for example we want a front man, we target a young upcoming striker from L2 even non league.
We talk to the club and try to make a deal, this allows them time to decide if they can afford to cash in and replace, when the window opens.

What we know for sure is that trying to bring in a player on the 31st when a Championship team decides their 5th choice forward is excess to requirements just doesn't work.

Have a dig if you want but look at the facts and you’ll see that the vast majority of deals are done in the last week. It’s not the clubs fault that. I’m sure they’ve had targets and had a go.

I've said many times, follow the crowd and you never stand out from it.
The key to success in football is either outspending everyone else, or finding a different way.
Unless an Arab rocks up we have to be different, or be forever mediocre.

Thank you wise man. Never eat yellow snow.

it is the clubs fault. there may be lots of deals done late in the window, through desperation, but there are plenty of deals done early in the window through decent planning, and we are never one of the clubs to do that.

Aberdeen have just signed Mcgeouch from us, 7th January, potentially ready to go into their first team squad this weekend. they obviously identified him as a target in november/december and have spoken to the player/club prior to the window opening, realised it was a good deal for them - (player willing to move, club willing to release) and moved in swiftly to make it happen. they will now have 3 or 4 games extra this season with the new player involved, obviously a player in a position that they are short in.

we never seem to do that, its always the last minute scattergun approach. if we had identified the players we wanted in november december, we could by now (8th january) know who is available, who is likely to be a realistic target, and we could be talking to them, finding out if they want to come, and if not, then move onto the next player. if they do, then sign on the dotted line and get yourself involved this saturday.

instead our owner isn't even in town, and is spending his time releasing hissy-fit statements on the club website abusing the fans.

slowly slowly more people are going to start realising what an absolute joke of an organisation our club is

and thats how we have been for the last 10 years, and continue to accept things. hence the drop down the leagues to a now mid-table league 1 side. the acceptance of 'that will do' , 'its only sunderland' 'what do we expect' and people tripping over themselves to show how 'loyal' they are to a bloke who couldn't give a shiney shite about SAFC or its fans, only to make himself a few quid. its the same syndrome that has people fawning over Boris and Rees-Mogg, people who actively want to rinse you for all they can, yet convince people to admire and trust them. its bizarre

We’re so far down the pecking order now that we’ve got to wait for potential recruits to go through about 50 English and Scottish sides before they’ll look at us, unless they’re shit in which case we’re about 30th.

We don't sign anyone until the last 2 hours of the transfer window !! Trying to get them for nowt or the dregs that no one else wants

I do look at McGeehan, Andelukan, Henneghan etc going elsewhere in the division (to teams below us) and think they would all improve us in areas we need improving. I do find it a little disappointing but still hope we can bring in players to improve us - hopefully sooner rather than later.

We've been told repeatedly that they were well prepared for January. Targets in place, didn't someone at the club say they had 2 players lined up?

I cant stand Donald but I still think he is incapable of messing this pivotal window up, particularly with £9million loan in place and the thought that a championship club would make him a significantly bigger profit than a League 1 club. His petty hatred of Sunderland supporters wouldn't be as important as him making a profit, surely...
