I have memories of lying in bed as a kid in seaburn dene, with the window open, and hearing distant industrial clanging noises. Would it have been the yards, or the maybe the railways?

Thank you. Thought it was just my memory. They did, and I can remember the noise as well.
From what I've heard it'll have been the one in every three lads who stopped to loudly bang metal while the other two went into the town clubbing.I'm sure there'll be lads that know better but I suspect depends on the contrsct/job
Tidied. They attended most of the time.

f***ing hell.Ah yes ..,the good old days of lying in bed in the leafy middle class suburbs listening to common folk making a noise .
What ?f***ing hell.
Leafy suburbs of Seaburn Dene. The same place loads of people from the yards, pit, glass works, Coles and Vaux lived? What ?
Salmon in the wear like??There was a night shift on when I worked at Pallion Shipyard..we used to find the odd beer can lying about on a Friday morning after they'd ordered fish and chips in on a Thursday night..the lads used to throw fishing nets out at the start of night shift then go and check them during the night..if they caught a salmon they used to take them to the Mowbray Hotel and sell them to the manager in the morning.
