"oversight" suggests it was an accident.

someone from within HMRC spent their days feeding Celtic-minded journalists and blogs information. Information that was clearly based on fuck all.

forgive me for wondering whether this "oversight" was accident..

If this is true, it doesn’t in any way shape or form vindicate Rangers. You cheated. You cheated and gained a significant advantage over other teams in Scotland by being able to pay more cash directly into the pockets of your players than any others could.

As a level headed football fan, not blinded by conspiracy, there was always a question to be asked as to why Rangers? Why not Southampton or Manchester United who also employed these schemes. The answer being, Rangers employed it on a far greater scale than others did. Go for the biggest offender and let that be a warning to the others.

Good luck suing the taxman. Rangers will have cause to claim under their tax advisors’ PI insurance. Who were the tax advisors btw :?:

I’ve just had a closer look at the actual documents surrounding the tax case. This was announced 5 months ago, odd that suddenly this has this been picked up by the Times in Scotland?

Perhaps most importantly, the decision has been made to in effect reduce the amount due. This is stated in court papers from January 2019 as a result of a cost vs effort decision by HMRC. The organisation they are pursuing no longer exists, the decision has been made not to pursue the penalty element of the overall liability, because they’d never recover it.

That this is somehow a victory for Rangers is such a distortion of the truth it’s laughable

Potential league titles, Cups and European football. Thats a shit ton of money to lose out on. Their lawyers will have a field day with this and rightly so if its all true. Loss of earnings and the damage to their image, they'd sue for at least £100 million i'd imagine.
but the company no longer exists, certainly the current club could not make any money from this

What happens then if it’s proven they’ve paid too much now there’s a newco? Just gets forgotten? Someone has to be compensated and the overpayment repaid to someone? Guessing the staff who lost their jobs have a claim for a start?

This came out recently too. Wonder if there is a link that is driving the timing of the announcement.

That's shocking. Thing is, the new owners have nothing to do with it - so the current club can't really be compensated - only the previous owners.
