Signs up saying there is a works trial planned from 21st October. Anyone know what is planned and why, or what a works trial even is?

But what is 'it'?
Maybe they will fix the rubbish lights or remove them all together for a trial period.
I remember when the council made a big song and dance about an intelligent traffic light system that adapted itself to traffic levels.
In reality one day heading west on a690 it lets loads of cars through, another it lets about 3, cars through and goes back to red with a queue over a mile long. Meanwhile the lights that are on green have no cars going through at all.
Same as traffic lights on a lot of roundabouts. The ones recently switched on full time in Shields are a pain in the proverbial. They need to be part-time. There is no point in them making your wait when the vast majority of the time you sit at a red light for no one to come through.

Isn’t it something to do with it being a pedestrian crossing as well as traffic lights that means they can’t be part time. Sure I have read that somewhereall of the A183/A690/A1231 with the A19 should be part-time, and they all were at one point.

.Delays expected as lane closures are planned for the Doxford roundabout - even though there'll be no roadworks
Closures on major roads are set for the area but no roadworks will be taking place just yet.www.sunderlandecho.com
They're closing lanes off just to see what effect it has
It's not good reading mind. 9 months of work starting 25th nov.Eh!?
Shirley it will be obvious, if they close off lanes the traffic is going to be longer tailbacks on all the approaches
Agreed.Think the survey is a week early, aren't they supposed to close the lanes down when it is half term and the traffic is lighter. The council can then announce how successful it is and then when the kids are back at school and we have queues all the way back down Durham Road they can go on about their successful trial. Getting rid of the stupid bus lanes on the stretch up to the A19/A690 junction would help - fortunately most driver ignore it otherwise at peak traffic the traffic would go all the way back to the Board Inn roundabout and snarl that up.
Road works planned I presumeSigns up saying there is a works trial planned from 21st October. Anyone know what is planned and why, or what a works trial even is?
Just seen a 4X4 try to cut in on a green sports car right outside the Board Inn.Agreed.
And also the short "bus lane" on the approach to the Board Inn roundabout from the A19.
This causes a lot of people who don't realise that the road goes into a single lane right outside of the Board Inn pub, - two lanes into one don't go.

As I mentioned, the 2 lanes into the 1 - simply doesn't go.
This happens regularly nowadays.
