Phil Parkinson - Is he really that bad?

Been promoted in this league twice with worse squads.
I'm not sure about that. When Bolton were promoted their two centre halfs Wheater and Beavers were voted in the team of the season by the other League one pros and they had Madine who is better than any current Sunderland striker.Maybe their midfield was worse i don't know but this midfield is probably the worst in Sunderland's history.

I don't know why people are slating the appointment, probably because it's not a well known name

Some people would rather have Phillips because he was a good player and that's the only reasoning behind it
Wonder how the some people on here reacted when we appointed DiCanio. And that’s when we were in the Prem. Parkinson has done more, and worked at a higher level, but because he doesn’t have a nice fancy name people are going right over the top.
Parkinson wasn’t in my top two or three, but I don’t know anything about what was said in interviews. I’m certain he will be well supported at the matches until he gives us a reason not to.
And for those saying they wanted Keano or Big Sam, haway man, we are in league 1, there was never any chance.

I'd have much preferred Stendel.

But, it's Parkinson. His track record, anything he's done in the past is irrelevant. All that matters is how he does here at Sunderland.

We've had managers who've done well at other clubs, but have failed miserably.

Get behind him. Judge him by all means. But on what he does here.
And judge him when he's had more than a handful of games.

In everything we are doing we are looking in the bargain basement end of the market and the ethos is how can we do something in the cheapest way...its a mindset that don is going to have to break if we are ever to get promoted...is it funny that our new manager was a free agent and no compo required!
Its been like that for decades tbh.

By the same token we haven't had many that have failed elsewhere and done really well here afterwards. I could be wrong mind but I can't think of any

Does anyone know what type of teams he produces?

Very hard working, would run through brick walls for him, defensive and likes a target man.He was Bolton's best manager since Allardyce but is not in the same class as Allardyce.

Peter Reid?

Finished 9th in the top flight after two fifth placed finishes. Not sure how badly they were doing when he was sacked early into the next season when they finished 16th but I wouldn't have regarded that as a failure

Plusses;

1) He know the division & how to get out of it
2) Can surely organise the defence better than Jack Ross
3) We have a decent squad for this division. They have just been managed very negatively.
4) Big move for Parkinson - succeed and his status shoots up
5) New manager effect - team was drifting surely they are now fighting for places

Good Luck Phil - win a few games and we'll all love you!!

After seeing all the negative comments about his appointment i am wondering is he really that bad as i haven't heard of him if im honest. I know we are league 1 now and maybe expect too much but is it a backwards step or do you really think he can get us promoted. I see his teams don't seem to concede many goals but i guess that he must put 11 men behind the ball which would not be good to watch. Anyways just looking for some honest craic about him
I have no idea if he will be good or bad, if he gets us up then job done. The meltdown on here is ridiculous though ! Him and Ainsworth were favourites from the start, wasn’t fussed on either of them

Fuck me, reading some of the shite on here you would think we had reappointed Mick Buxton with Terry Butcher as his assistant
And Howard Wilkinson as Technical Director and Moyes as Motivation Coach

Give him a chance. He has a good track record in Div 1. You cannot expect a well known name to manage in this Div

We'll soon find out.

But every decision the owners have made has seemed short term thinking for me.
Get promoted, sell on for a nice tidy profit, let the new owners worry about the squad in the Championship.
I obviously won't give a toss if they sell us to the right people though.
Because we will have far better options if we go up what’s the point in giving people long term contracts then having to give them a massive pay off
