Me and my mate once did this, facing each other out of different windows. I was facing forward and I noticed we were heading towards a sign that he had his back to. I was frantically waving at him to move but he just waved back and time stood still for a few seconds before he ducked back inside of his own accord. I’ve never fucked about with train windows since.
Orhhhh imagine that.

You being killed by his head smashing into yours.... ooooof. grim.
Petition: Make pavements wider in case people accidentally walk into cars.
Lets make knives blunter incase people cut themselves.

Not really. a lot of operators still use mark3 coaches with the handles on the exterior, so its either retro fitting some sort of auto window lock or back to permanently locked windows and a guard in each station to open the doors. Not sure when the end of service life is either
Theres your answer @lostinfrance

The people who made the trains weren't taking into account that in the years to come people would be so used to being wrapped in cotton wool they wouldn't have the sense to not stick their heads out of moving trains.

Fair play. If it happened on a mark 3 coach then that could account for it.
Should we ban balconies?

you didn't answer the question

Do you also think we should have fully opening windows in a 50 storey tower block ?
Yeah, why do you think the state should be responsible for us to that extent?

I mean we have rivers through city centres, if people want to be idiots and jump in they will do and potentially die. Do you want them to put massive walls up on either side?

In the good old days when smoking was permitted on aircraft - you could open the windows to let the smoke out for the comfort and safety of other passengers.

A fabulous era that will never be replaced.
Those Dan Air flights out of Newcastle with 335 of the 340 passengers standing smoking their heads off at the back of the plane.
Happy days

Whilst this story is certainly tragic, it beggars belief that there is now a question over the adequacy of the signs saying don’t do this.
They might as well go full hog and have looped videos of Viv in the University Challenge episode of the Young Ones playing to remind people not to stick their heads out of a window on a moving train.
