Why do you think this messageboard is where it is?

Imho the reason for the changes are wide and varied;

it was probably, looking back, a mistake to split and create so many boards;
some of us have been on here too long, are too thick skinned now, and know which buttons to press to get a reaction/get the conversation going; sad but true;
some people get very easily offended;
once people label you on here, goes for anyone, they will ultimately play up to it;
Sunderland are shit, which never helps;
the politics board was a giant mistake - see first point above;
too many people bear too many grudges.

I find it interesting that after all these years I recognise very, very few people on here. Even those who have been on the board for years. Similarly I can’t believe the number of people who seem to make it their business to remember and regurgitate some posters every utterances. Bizarre behaviour.
How many of the above do you plead guilty too?
Take a step back and work it out. It's quite obvious when you look from afar
Ha'way, we are waiting.

At every step the board has "splintered" (parsnip, pure football, politics) it has eroded the dilution of the extreme voices to a degree that the loudest shouters are all we hear. To a point where re-integrating the community again is impossible. There's really only one way forward. Each splinter of the board is going to have fight in some sort of battle royal. Theres no other way, thats just science.
If you use New Posts it shows them all together like the old SMB.

Too many butt hurt people at the minute. Everyone feels the whole jack ross thing personal. Most are more bothered about their options being right and cant change their mind on that. But it's not just here ,its the same in real life

Some people just can’t accept being wrong, they get a little irate about about it for some reason.

I don't think putting interesting threads like the Facebook Nonsense and the NE Foodies one over on the naughty step that is parsnip helps.
I don't understand why some things get put on parsnip. Seems random

As a relatively new poster I found too many threads toxic. Arguments are often black and white with no allowance for the in between. If you don't agree with someone you're likely to get name called. So I don't post as much on topics I have an opinion on.

Without a politics forum this place would be utterly goosed. The rule should be, it’s locked and if you want to post in there you can only post in there. You’re effectively banned from the rest of the board.

That was a ridiculous decision. A popular, amusing, non offensive thread that I popped into regularly. Haven't looked at it since it moved. The NE Foodies one is a bit more understandable at it was more argumentative and potentially libellous.

I find it amusing that the person who was almost single handedly responsible for the Politics Board being created is complaining that it spoils the board.
I'm relieved that I no longer have to be spammed by pages of Brexit nonsense.

What is the libel situation on here. I didn't realise there would be one. Am I too naive

You’ve joined plenty times since 2006 you lying fucker :lol:

In response to the original question I genuinely believe the board went downhill after Cameron and his brexit referendum began.
I joined here in 2006 as ‘Spug’

Never joined as any pseudo name and never made a secret of who I am like.

Agree on the Brexit thing. It’s wrecked the whole country. People can’t handle it 😂

Who is the clique? I don't get on here as much these days so I'm a bit out of the loop.
I don't think it matters. There's always a clique although often (as in this case) no-one seems quite sure who the clique are.

Love the way Roger the Gaffer posts a 'calm down' message and a few hours later Spug is doing the same. Some lad, him.

I do love these comments about how the board used to better in the good old days, ffs @Roger has explained plenty of times what the crack is, the board has become successful down to the posters over the years, it’s grown massively, it’s got sponsorship...when you get this stuff happening it becomes a different beast to police. A lot of the libellous stuff can’t carry on, the ‘crack’ has to be monitored more on the public forums...this is why we have parsnip.

I’d suggest that if we want more of the good old days type banter then parsnip should be used more
I joined in 2006.

When I joined things were different.

Let’s get things straight here this is a brilliant board this

1 This board used to be self policing. If one of us was a tit we could call out a tit. If you do that now you’re banned.

2 I think we need to have a look at ourselves and sort it out otherwise boards like this will shut.

Anyone fancy an amnesty.
Got to say mind, worst username you’ve had yet.😉
I joined over 10 years ago

In relation to point 1, lots of good posters have moved on, passed away or just stopped posting, however some of the new uber posters seem to believe they are above the law and appear to get away with it

2. Again in the old days, people posted shite and it was more relaxed

There is a clique on here that get away with far more than the normal poster does, if you step away you see it, but the clique post lots so keep the place busy
A clique eh? Is it an evil or good clique or are there more than one cliques? Could it just be that there’s people on a messageboard that don’t see eye to eye?

Most people can discuss normally where they don't see eye to eye on a subject, I have noticed where one of the select few starts then the others join in and round in circles you go

It puts people of posting in my opinion
