Donald is so populist that if you shout it loud enough.... he will follow.

Cruyff
Zidane
Ancelloti
Del Bosque
Simeone
Mancini
Maldini Snr

Simeone, likes red and white stripes but I think he is a bit defensive and it might be difficult prising him from Atletico? He may welcome the fresh challenge. Aim high.

It was a list of managers who had succeeded at their former clubs, not a list of potential candidates

Oh right, I thought it was a little fantastical. Couldn’t fault your optimism all the same.

Or Lee Bowyer. Or Vieira. Or Zidane. Or Mancini

The truth is it would be a gamble but ex-players have started their managerial careers at bigger clubs than us. One thing it would do is galvanise the fans in a way we’ve not seen since Keane!
Whichever man comes in it will be a gamble this is SAFC no guarantees itll be a rollercoaster ride for all .The fans might idolise skp but will the players? Id sooner go for a footballing giant and hope for instant respect from the squad .

We are a League One team with, for the most part, League One standard players and SKP is the only English player to have won the European Golden Boot, and played in the top 2 divisions of English football until he was almost 40.

That should be enough for the team to give him respect!

As a manager or a footballer?

As a manager or a footballer?
Did the Sunderland players respect Roy Keane as a manager?
Did the Real Madrid players respect Zidane as a manager?
Did the Barcelona players respect Guardiola as a manager?

It’s not like Kevin Phillips retired, disappeared from football, then suddenly decided he wanted to be our manager. He’s been coaching since he retired and has been assistant manager in the Premier League and the Championship over the last 5 years.

Couldn't agree more. Experience is over rated.
Experience is overrated. With respect, how can that be true in any walk of life? I'll just say to my surgeon who is in his 50s no mate I dont want you. I want an enthusiastic young surgeon who has never done this operation before. If we can't get a proven manager , Philips might be worth a try.

What's the obsession with Phillips. Great player back in the day of course.

He chose WBA over us when Quinn was on his knees and begging him to come back. Then mouthed off at the fans for booing him.

Suddenly he is a MLF now he wants to be a manager. I don't see any other clubs beating a path to his door.

Ball was the leader back then. Followed by Quinn. Both were total disasters as manager. I'm not convinced myself.
Because the fans booing him were pathetic, he didn’t come back because his family were settled where they were
Massive gamble.
Any manager is a massive gamble

Thinking of the pros & cons of giving Super Kev a crack at his dream job Donald has a massive decision to make! Dose he plum for a Ainsworth or Cook who have done well at this level.

The main argument I see against giving SKP a crack is it'll damage is reputation and our memories of him as a player, but at least he knows the club, those goals and records as a player will never be taken from the history books... surely at this level our players would respect what he's done in the game / at the club?

The other "con" I've seen is lack of management experience, how much experience did Bowyer or Barton have before taking a job at a league 1 club? Why couldn't SKP do as good a job knowing the demands of playing for Sunderland??

All in all, I'd like to see him given the chance, IF it worked it would really be magic!
