The Scum calls itself a newspaper. I struggle to see the news in a 31 year old story of a tragic event that happened in a different country before Stokes was born and has no relevance whatsoever to his achievements.

I'll happily acknowledge step sister was the wrong term, it was tenuous at best. Let's agree I got it wrong there.
She was asked about a case that involved her dad killing her half siblings. She's well within her rights to discuss it even if decency would say it shouldn't have been dredged up or not.
I think that one reason why a lot of people are disgusted by this particular story is the intersection between two things:
- that this story has only been published because of Ben Stokes. It's not about him in a narrative sense, but he's the reason for it being.
- but the events happened before he was even born. It's nothing he's done, experienced, caused, witnessed, been part of.
There's something in that which seems particularly nauseating.

Apparently it was a tabloid journalist that broke the news to his parents that he was HIV+ by knocking on their front door and asking them to comment. He’d not had a chance to speak to them about it. He was really emotional about it in the interview - he said he can never get that moment back, ever. Apparently there was a BBC Wales documentary on it last night.
He wouldn’t say which paper it was, but it was quite obvious after a couple of comments that it was the Sun.

I thought the Stokes story was grim but what they’ve done to Thomas is horrendous. It’s not inconceivable that someone could commit suicide being put under that kind of pressure.
The statement regarding free press made me laugh too, like Murdoch hasn’t been available to the highest bidder for their rhetoric in his papers since before Blair was PM.
