McGeady overrated?

It’s even more difficult to beat three men if you insist on doing each one twice.

McGeady has unbelievable ability but if he’d been able to deploy it with maximum effectiveness he wouldn’t have had the career he’s had. He’d probably still be playing PL football even now.
True, but for someone to be on here questioning him is ridiculous, he's easily our best player by a f***ing mile

While McGeady is no doubt talented he can be guilty of overdoing it. Wether its because he has a lack of confidence in his team mates or he wants the glory there are numerous times when he could pass to a player in a better position but tries to do it all himself. The team can also be a bit obsessed with giving him the ball as well, compromising better situations. It would be nice to see him smile once in a while as well!
Gooch & when he plays Whatmore can be guilty of missing a passing opportunity as well and end up with nowhere to go. We miss out on a good few opportunities by players not picking out a pass. Maybe its because we have a better view in the stands I don't know but surely when they watch the video of the game back they can pick out lost chances.

It's extremely close actually they both average assist or goal every other game.

This season they don't look close but that's because Peterborough always start well. They'll eventually fall away
Nah. Maddison has 6 goals and 5 assists to McGeadys 2 and 2 this season. Last season it was something like 8 and 22 against 14 and 3. But beyond that look at more advanced stats. His through balls per 90, crosses and xGa dwarf mcgeadys. @Johnsafc put up a graphic over the summer (which I can’t find) showing creative output in league one and Maddison’s numbers were FAR better than McGeady’s. To be clear I want him in the side but we’re certainly guilty of overlooking the bad because he has flashes of the extraordinary.

McGeady didn't play as many games. They average a goal or assist every other game. Peterborough won't win by 6 all season

I get the impression he thinks hes a lot better than he is at times. Loves to try and beat his man when hes already beat him aswell

Still by far our best player
It's exactly that, especially lately, he's already beaten his man but he does that extra there's no need for and gets himself into trouble or misses the opportunity that was already there

He done it the other night. Cut inside onto his right foot, skinned the full back then decided to skin him again and put a shite cross in with his left foot.

This was with about 5 minutes left aswell. Sad thing is as bad as he was the other night he was still our only player that looked like making anything happen

By no more than a couple. Even normalised to per 90 stats McGeady didn’t get close to Maddison. He’s not close now. Odds are he’ll be behind by season end too.

I'd try him behind the striker.

His shooting and trickery far outweighs his ability to put a ball in the box.
Gets far more space outwide though. Hes no where near as effective everytime hes played on the left wing. Takes away his best asset of coming inside on his right foot

Had a poor game against Rotherham and still had two great shots at goal and put our striker clean through for a one on one. Our trouble was we didn't get him on the ball enough in the second half.

He often cuts inside to the cente spot yo shoot...... also playing behind the striker doesn't limit you to playing directly behind him. He can take positions on either wing when he cant take advantage of space etc... also means he has less need to track back.

Best footballer in the league imo however the pressure for him to essentially win us a game single handedly is now starting to show.

Well by stats I looked at he played 8 games less last season so not by a couple

Someone shot me down on here after the game for suggesting that although his skill level makes him undroppable his contribution to the teamwork ethic is somewhat lacking. Pleased to see that most on here seem to agree.
