Ebony Rainford- Brent on TMS.....

I like her, Guia and Mitchell. They off something different in terms of opinions etc. Having the same old blokes rehashing the same old stories gets repetitive.

On the other hand I get fed up with Bumble. The bloke can’t keep his gob shut. Richie Benaud famously one went for overs without saying anything because the cricket was so enthralling. Bumble seems to think there’s a need for constant noise. Should rename him Babble.

So when people criticise the blokes it’s fair to call it misandry, right?
It's hardly the same. Cricket, like golf was for many years and exclusively male sport. Entrenched in misogyny and snobbery. Women not allowed, women sneered at and look down upon.
To suggest that a female commentator is only commentating on a male sport to "tick a box" is hugely insulting and massively wide of the mark.
You don't like them, we get that. We ALL get that, but to suggest they aren't up to the job, or shouldn't be allowed to commentate is just wrong
There is no bigger old boys network than TMS (well, maybe the Conservative Party) and it's been a breath of fresh air listening to the likes of Alison Mitchell and Ebony Rainford-Brent add their voices to the mix. It's not all plain sailing of course, even the lads on TMS and SKY can't help but make the odd sexist remark when introducing or referring to their female colleagues.

The long and short of it is that the women are here to stay and I couldn't be happier about it.

Which is entirely your opinion. Perhaps if you’d seen the most outrageous and downright dangerous examples of tokenism in your life or your job, like I have - you’d share my view.

I don’t like golf, but I do love TMS and for years and years it’s been seen as the absolute pinnacle of sports broadcasting. ALL sports, the world over. They’ve had some of the greatest commentators to grace the mic.

It’s come about by a tried and tested method of filtering out the mundane and the mediocre so that only the creme remains. Regarding the women however, that filter hasn’t been allowed to work - because they NEED to remain to tick that box. Several blokes who are considerably better than them have been bladdered for being deemed not up to standard. The problem is, a double standard now exists at the BBC.

The long and short of it is that talent is no longer the main attribute required to be on the TMS team.

So it is most certainly NOT misogyny, but if you wish to be so lazy that you throw that word around whenever someone criticises their shite commentary, you have to acknowledge any criticism of Swann/Boycott/Tufnell misandry. That’s what equality is all about, innit.

I don't think any are particularly great but female voices coming in has to be a good thing for me. Our media's version of the Saffa quota system in a way, done for the greater good.

Cricket didn't reach out to 50% of the population for too long.

We aren't going to agree on this. I would be embarrassed to be publicly sexists, chauvinistic and misogynist so my hat's off to you for being brave/stupid enough to be so honest.

I think Isa is excellent on Sky. Better than yesterdays men like Gower and Lloyd.

I find Bumble funny and don't mind Gower. Botham is the weakest of the fellas for me, nowhere near as perceptive as Hussain or Atherton

Yeah we aren’t going to agree. But why be so childish and petty to follow it up with namecalling?

I’m an egalitarian, I’m not a fan of tokenism at all and I felt I’d made it clear with my previous arguments on the topic.

I’m happy to discuss it properly with you, but know this - in my job, standards were lowered and even ignored in order to give certain people a job. In my job, if you aren’t capable of doing the job, people WILL die.

I believe in absolute equality and by that nobody should be elevated above anyone else because they have a certain characteristic or belong to a particular group. The best person should ALWAYS get the job.

That isn’t happening at the BBC and it is all day wrong.

That's the argument right there. You seem to think they are only there as a box ticking exercise which is completely disrespectful and wrong.

Which is unfortunate but has nothing to do with cricket commentary (I hope)

My last words on the subject. We won't agree on this and I see no point in continuing.

How is it disrespectful and wrong? I see more people calling them shite than those who think they’re good......? There are far better commentators who’ve either been cast aside or ‘demoted’ in recent years by BBC and Sky.
