Would you say that reflects badly on the manager and the recruitment strategy? I made a post on here before we signed Grigg after reading an article by Paul Cook his manager at Wigan. Given what he said I was concerned we were buying Grigg's "stats" rather than a player we'd identified as a replacement for Maja based on thorough research.

JR would only know his stats, on the basis he didnt know any players down here, and the job of the recrutment guys was to hlp him by looking beyond the stats, which they obviously didnt do in griggs case.

if they are looking beyond the stats with maddison, thats what they should be doing..

The one thing I would say is, he wouldn't take the piss up there like he supposedly has at Peterborough. Gets away with it there because he's their main asset, on and off the pitch, plus there's nowhere near the same exposure that he'd get at Sunderland.

the chairman himself said the football guys told hiim not to pay £3m..but he went over it..putting the extra cash in himself.
They wabted the player..just not at that price..so SD paid the extra. Nothing contradicts it.
I did sign in in the quinny years, under a different login..paddymacken..
I didnt want the kildare login then because quinny and his mates live in kildare so i thought such a login would imply a connection with them, subsequently, ellis had a company with kildare in the name, so couldnt use it then either.

I'm not making a case out for signing Maddison (or any other individual player) I'm more interested in the process that arrives at the decision to recommend a player as regardless of whether it's this league and free/cheap players or multi million pound PL signings the process needs to be the best it can be given the potential new investment.

That’s the direct quote. Nothing about the dressing room, specifically says he doesn’t rate a player involved in nigh on 80 goals in 3 seasons.


We play them this weekend and they normally interview an opposition fan or someone connected with the opposition ahead of a game.

I was in the company of a coach the other night who told me few tales about the drinking habits of certain players....quite a few of them ex-SAFC and I was surprised at some of the names a d the level to which they drank but I'd never have drawn the conclusion that it had affected any of them based on the performances I watched them put in.

Good point. Peterborough are desperate to sell because its their model no to let contracts run down. We may not be in for him OR we may be calling their bluff. Essentially we are their last chance of getting a half decent fee for him now that the window has closed in the league above.

Let's say for the sake of argument we got him for £1m. How does that sum figure when you factor in the potential new investment and the inarguable fact that promotion this season isn't up for debate, we simply must start next season in the Championship if we have new investors. Would that £1m be money well spent and tbf he'd still have residual value if we moved on from him...the teams that come down to L1 next season would certainly be interested you'd think. He may be very best move we could make in the short term.
