VARguments

When it was brought in they said these arguments would disappear for ever. Absolute farce.
Maybe as we're not in the Premier League I don't see enough of it but I just don't see what the point of VAR is. That was the definition of a penalty - the defender took the attacker down and got none of the ball. It was very clear. If that wasn't given after a review what is the point of VAR? I genuinely don't understand what it is there for. Surely no one is arguing its improving the game.

That was the pelantiest pelanty to ever pelanty but not given. I blame the linesman, he's got the perfect angle to see that.
Perhaps an unintended consequence is that it creates more doubt and less confidence in making a judgement call.

They'd be far better off just doing away with it and giving the benefit of the doubt to defenders for penalties and attackers for offsides. Failing that, instead of getting involved in every little thing, let's take the best of other sports and see if they work for football. Let each captain have one challenge per half (a bit like cricket) and see if there is a reason to overturn the referee's devision (like rugby). If not, the decision stands. You could say the challenge can only come when the ball is out of play or if the game has stopped anyway.

Sounds good. If overturned you maybe keep your challenge?

This challenge thing is a non starter for me like. If a team has a challenge remaining and concede a 90th minute goal they will just challenge it every single time on the off chance that VAR finds something. Making even more of a farce.

The only way forward is to scrap it all together
Referee on the pitch has the final decision. It really is that simple and if he stays with that, there is nothing var can do, on opinion decisions like a pen or not

The only decision taken out of the on field official, is if the ball has crossed the line for a goal

So what exactly is the point in VAR then? If they cant over rule the ref then why did they even look at that penna for 2 minutes yesterday ? Total waste of time if they cant do anything about it anyway.

.
Not if they have to tell the ref the reason for the challenge before sending it upstairs ie a hand ball, offside, foul on keeper etc

The ref then asks the video ref to check for an offside say at the request of the captain
If there is no offside but there was a handball the goal still stands

Well that would be ridiculous.

Well is they see a handball in the replay but choose to ignore it because it wasn't the right appeal then I think that's pretty silly tbh. VAR is a load of shit full stop mind.
I take it all back. Having one challenge per game would work imo

Ending its use would be better

My point still remains. Any goal scored close to the end of the game would always be challenged by the conceding team. They'd say there was a push or shirt holding or a foul in the build up, every single time, or at least 90% of the time. Why wouldn't you. Therefore any goal scored near the end of the game would need delayed celebrations. The whole thing is absolutely nuts, I cant believe there is otherwise sane people that are trying to find ways to advocate it.

Being able to fully celebrate. Anyone who goes to games will agree, sky boys will disagree. The best moments of my life have been the joy at seeing Sunderland score a goal, if that starts getting taken away from me my season ticket is getting cancelled along with Sky, BT and I will take up another interest.

Bound to happen unfortunately. Sadly the global game comes before the fans now and it’s clear that the premier league has decided it has to introduce this or will fall behind.

I can see some local clubs increasing their attendances as people look to go back to the real life emotion of the game the6 grew up with.
