This might not go down too well on here for some

The higher paid players have left and any replacements are usually free agents at the end of their contracts with other League 1 clubs - which is the reality of what we now are.
Blame Ross, but despite their good intentions the inability of the present owners to provide investment in quality players is what's really holding us back.
Yes, we have some good young players coming through but the majority of the squad must be mature, experienced and decent quality players to get us out of this league.
I fear Ross's days are numbered but he's not been given the tools to do the job.

That's just objectively not true though. You're so blinkered you can't admit it. We have had plenty of decent performances.

If Warnock, for example, was getting the same performances/results people would say he's grinding it out because he knows what to do to win. Ross is just never going to win some people over and it would be better if they left the club to move on without their "support".

Seriously who do you think you are mate, telling people to move on ffs. Your standard of playing well is obviously pretty low. We were awful for the first half hour against Pompey, exactly the same as 99% of every home game under Ross, you'd think he'd have improved on that by now. You're very happy with him I'm not. It doesn't stop me supporting the team, I still do so every home game.

Sorry but I do not buy this at all. We’ve got the best squad in the league by a fair distance. We’ve signed plenty of players from either other top league one teams or championship players who’ve succeeded at this level prior. Grigg for instance has an exemplary record at this level. Just because the manager cannot use him, that isn’t Griggs or the owners fault. And he’s been backed more than any league one manager in the history of the game, so don’t suggest he hasn’t been backed. Just because he bought poorly, can’t be blaming the owners for that

You genuinely think we haven't played well in 65± games? You sound like an idiot mate, just completely detached from reality.

Try to be a bit more objective and people might take you seriously.
I think we have been poor in every game so far and will get in the top two. No idea what that means for the manager really.

It would mean he has been successful in his task. Would I prefer he did it with a bit more attacking flair? Of course.

Like I said, if this was warnock OR allardyce people would say that it's no nonsense and the results are all that matter. Same as Ross apparently isn't allowed to play McGeady or he is cheating.

You really love throwing insults about mate. Can you not just accept that people have different opinions to you. In well over 90% of our home games we hand the initiative to the opposition, we start slowly and badly and regularly go behind. He's still not addressed this. Also, given that I attend games and get behind the team am I still allowed to go to the game on Saturday?

Tbf Grigg was a good substitution, supported Wyke and caused trouble for them. Not what we bought him for mind, but enough to force a win.
We're playing poorly still and it'll catch up with us eventually. It feels like last season is happening again.

We'll never get this under Ross but I wish we'd just go out and take the game to teams. We don't need to stand off so much.
Last 10 minutes of the game it was like watching Barcelona v Whitley Bay.
They had us pinned back and should have won 3-2.
Our defence needs real work, I said it all of last season. Start with clean sheets and then you have less to do.

We took the lead tonight and still you slag them off, is like you have some kind of agenda or something

Personally I think we will need to improve performances to get top two. We won't grind out this number of points from these quality performances over a whole season. It pretty much never happens. Early days but I was looking for performances to give me confidence of a sustained push over this first part of the season. We haven't come close to one yet

hate it when supporters are having a go at each other...ross started with his fave formation and it failed so had to revert to 4 at the back, things have improved but i am pretty sure we can all agree that there is a lot of room for further improvements, hopefully these will come as the side settles into this formation and we get a 'proper' back 4.

as it stands, the team are getting results and i don't know how many times we have all heard over the years that teams that manage a win while playing badly are the ones that get promoted so i am not writing anyone off just yet.

Problem is people are mistaking lucky wins for good form.
It’s great being lucky but we can’t assume it will last - and we are playing worse than the opposition for large periods of every game. I’d love to play shit but win every game to get out of this league but it’s unlikelynisnt it. Hopefully wins breed confidence which gets us going.

But this manager will not get us in to the top 2

I've watched every game so far and in all games apart maybe the Portsmouth game we have been poor

It's no different from last season and it will end up the same way with Jack Ross in charge

.. Fuck off .. Just enjoy the win man ..

Early days though and his second season form has always been better apparently. It’s encouraging that we’re still looking to bring three players in. If two of the three are fullbacks and the other a fast forward player we should be there or thereabouts.

It’s clear to all but those of blind faith that we’re still very much a work in progress and just about every side we’ve played this season look more of a team than we do.

Hopefully while that’s being addressed McGeady stays fit as without him I really wonder where our goals and creativity would come from.

Early days bollix he's had owa 60 games & the footballs getting worse

At times Rochdale outpassed us f***ing Rochdale not Man Utd

Another good result, but it seems we were possibly lucky tonight and outplayed for large periods.

I've read their messageboard and most of the comments aren't complementary about our play e.g. If these are the best the division can offer, we should have nothing to fear etc. It's a common comment coming from many fans we play and I don't think it's sour grapes as we too ourselves know we aren't playing great. It's quite annoying really as we should be blowing teams away at times, but it always seems to be close hard fought affairs.
If we were that good this board would be awash with love all over

We are winning but we are not playing well, the two don't automatically go together.

That's why they say "title winning teams win even when they are not playing well"

I'll gladly take another 42 wins while not playing well to get us out of this awful league.

I was there tonight, happy with the result but I have to agree with the OP. We were definitely outplayed, Rochdale looked far more comfortable on the ball, coming short getting it off the keeper, proper build up play, overlapping fullbacks.

I think we've been 2nd best in every league game this season except against Portsmouth, which evened out after about 25 minutes.

I'm not sure our current good form will continue unless we find a way to keep the ball better and create more chances.

You will get skinned ha ,i agree with ya .Think what happens in next couple of weeks will define our season.I wasnt there tonight but awful to listen to.Also everyone has their favourites ,grigg embleton, mcgeough if they play a major part this season god help us.They were the subs he brought on ,game was crying out for dobson legs were needed.
As someone who was there tonight, let me say that the engine stuttered on occasion but it wasn’t too bad.

O’Nien (who I’m a fan of) didn’t have the greatest of games at right-back, while McLaughlin on the other side was slightly better, but occasionally looked awkward on his ‘wrong’ foot. The centre-backs were solid, but not quite so dominant as they were on Saturday.

Midfield functioned. McGeouch’s and Embleton’s arrivals neither improved nor diminished the overall performance. Gooch and McGeady were occasionally decent and occasionally anonymous.

Wyke had what I thought was his best game for us, at least for a while. Grigg was also better than he has been for some time, in terms of running around a bit, sometimes with purpose and sometimes quite effectively.

Ross did not make a tackle or a pass. He never headed the ball, nor did he take a shot at goal. His running off the ball was non-existent. Of course none of these facts should be a surprise, because once the game has started, these things are in the control of the players and they have the responsibility to discharge them, not the manager.

The perpetual insistence on always trying to find fault with Ross is now just wearisome.

Let’s all move on. SAFC are unbeaten this season and have the real chance of continuing this at the weekend. Ross is doing a decent job and will continue to do so. Perhaps not in a spectacular or a splashy way. Perhaps without the bulging eyes and fist clenching and cliche-ridden ‘rent-a-gob’ media coverage that some would prefer. But a decent job, nonetheless.

65+ games and we still haven't chalked up a single excellent performance, most weeks we are utter shite. I'm not convinced we will make top 6 this season
I have watched the majority of those and I can only think of the first half an hour of the Scunthorpe game where we really took them apart. That should have been the benchmark. We swarmed all over them. Instead it's huff and puff and hope for a bit of McGeady/Maja magic.
