Hands-free phone ban for drivers 'should be considered'

It's about time we cracked down on stuff like this. The evidence has been clear for ages now that it's almost equally as dangerous as just being on your phone, even if it may seem less so.

This is how people get killed. Especially cyclists who are at their most vulnerable at junctions.

Why can't people just put their phones in the glove compartment and leave the alone while in the car? Nothing is that important, and if it is then maybe consider using another method of transport that permits you to use it.

What part of “I use my phone for sat nav and Spotify” do people not get?

It's not the same though really is it? I'm going to propose an isolation cockpit for all drivers.
Was the cricket on?
How’s it not the same? whoever’s gobshiting on the other end is distracting you when you’re approaching situations that require total concentration.

Even then, even if it's mounted to the dash or windscreen in a cradle, you're not supposed to be touching the screen while the car is moving are you? Sure I read that counts the same as using a phone while driving.

I’m not, but some fools want to block all phone signals inside cars.

It it is nowhere near as dangerous as idiots texting/looking at phones while driving.

It's shocking the amount of people who still think it's okay to mindlessly look down and gaze at their phones on their laps while in heavy/slow moving traffic. Pretty worrying if you can't cope with not checking your phone during the additional 10/15 mins added onto your original journey time for the sake of not putting yours and others' lives at risk.

Are people really that naive to think that drivers pull over to adjust their satnav route or pick a new song on Spotify?

Predominantly young lasses who are addicted to Instagram or whatever shite social network people use these days.

...I do. It’s pretty dangerous if you don’t.

How is it different if I have the same conversation with my husband while he is in the car I’m driving, versus he is taking to me on the handsfree while I’m driving.

Same conversation, same level of concentration required.

I call Mr B to tell him I’m on my way to pick him up.

They’ll need to ban mirrors to look at the kids with. Or looking in the mirror at the kids. Or turning around.

It's the lasses putting on (or checking) their make-up in the mirror whilst driving that make me mad. OK, it might (generally) be when the traffic is going slow or stalled; however it's hardly the time to be doing that.

I do find most conversations I have over the hands free are stuff I need to remember rather than just talking shite as you do on a journey. Not caused any kind of distraction or owt though.

I disagree. I have some of my most involved conversations with Mr B when we are driving, especially on long journeys. As the parents of toddler twins it’s actually one the the few times we get quiet time together to discuss some important things. And I’m serious.

What I mean is a call over hands free is rarely talking crap. Had plenty of serious ones sat side by side too. At my work we're allowed to answer just to say we're driving and will call back when we stop. Any kind of conversation which is part of an accident would land me in serious bother.
