BBC Jack Ross: Sunderland manager on his outlook to management

That’s what’s made it more frustrating for me. We played some decent attacking, passing football in the first couple of months of last season so he is capable of setting a team up to do that. Whether he can, or even has the desire to do it again remains to be seen. I like the bloke, he’s young he has potential but ultimately talking about it which he does well, and putting it into practice are two different things. He has a certain amount of time to rectify our situation, I hope he uses it wisely because if he can’t then I think Donald will fire him before the end of September.
Agreed mate.
As you say, we played some good stuff in the first half of last season, using the high energy, high pressing game, which brought us plenty of wins.
We suffocated teams, and played some good attacking football, with fast accurate passing, and excellent movement, with players looking to receive the ball in advanced areas, in the opponents final third of the pitch.
I don't know what happened or why Ross, stopped using the high press, but we never looked anything like the attack minded team, we were in the first half of last season. (Maja leaving, obviously didn't help matters)
He's trying another system, using wing backs, but last weeks team looked flat and disjointed, and if Ross is to persist with his new system, he needs to have the right players, who are suited to playing the way he wants them to play.

Because he has probably read this board. Lots of people on here have short memories. No doubt the next man to be given the job will be welcomed as our next saviour then hounded out after 12 months.

More like he sneaks out the back door while everyone is asleep.

did he nearly get sacked after the first season? thats odd...the owners said they knew he was the right man..

were moanco less successful than arsenal at that time?
Monaco weren’t a massive side back then , so all the stories that Ferguson was close to being sacked were just made up

When asked he should have said "yeah I'm shitting bricks as I'm not cut out to manage in this league and the players hate me"

Then this board will have been fine. Silly Jack pfft.

To believe he has done the job to the best of his ability says it all really. If he'd turned round and said himself and his coaching staff along with his players had to get it together and start performing the way they should be I for one would say OK lets see it, fresh start prove yourselves.

What he has delivered thus far (not one game) proves he is working at 100%, frankly his max is my 70% and that's being generous, simply not good enough.

He’s shot himself in the foot if he’s said he’s done the job to the best of his abilities.

He’s come up short so far, both in results and league position.

If he’d said something about learning from last season and being confident of improving, he might just have won a few people over.

Instead, he’s effectively said that’s as good as it gets ?! Strange.
Homesick?

there is a story he was close to being dcked in 1990...but that was four years after he joined..not one..so he must have done usmmat right to get four years..

which the chaiman of the time only half refutes.

Rightly so. Has no excuses for this squad not being top 2 come the end of the season.

the squad where we don't have strikers who score. 1 left back, about 20 cms, 15 centre backs who all seemed confused by a football. please dont makeout that we have this amazing squad

He/we did alright last season, given the mess we were in. Of course, we would all expect more from the club this year.
In league position, yes - but that would have been the case even if we finished second last season.

I would hazard a guess Jack Ross hasn't got our worst win percentage of any Sunderland manager. He'll be nowhere near the best, but not the worst.

around fourth best win percentage in our history mate, believe it or not
