I think life would go on if my role didn’t get done. I help banks, insurance companies, casinos etc ensure they don’t pay out any money to terrorists. Hunting the terrorists sometimes sounds Homelandish but it’s more sat on my arse, balls deep into their IT systems and databases checking their huge customer lists against the sanctions watchlists issued from The UN, The EU and the relevant countries’ governments.

It’s interesting working with the live customer data. Some of the amounts of money particular people have in unusual places can be eye watering. Also quite exciting when we find a real live terrorist hidden in there and the Compliance Officer goes white before phoning around screaming “Lock this account!!” To avoid $billion fines.

But it’s not as important as keeping the power on or ensuring there are enough KitKats in the vending machine obviously.
