that very rarely happens. Most of our play goes through the full back/winger which is great until you remember that your striker isn't interested unless the ball falls to him.

.

There's the rub then....if you pay £3m+ for a striker who has scored 64 goals in his three previous L1 seasons maybe you shouldn't also play CM's who pass it sideways and backwards. There's a way to get the best out of Grigg.....we can only assume Ross hadn't thought it through when he signed him and still hasn't worked it out 6 months later.

If you’re playing with 3 centre half’s then you can’t have two holding midfielders

Aye. Sadly, we have a boatload of them.
Surely the point of having 3 central defenders is so one can bring the ball out of defence? Leadbitter and McGeough sitting on top of them won't help whatsoever.

Today was just a kickabout but they come thick and fast as of next weekend and we have to hit the ground running. If today taught us anything it's that the pairing of Dobson and Power looked to give us far more zip in the middle and we played our best stuff.

We'll see when the season kicks off. It was too one-dimensional what he done last season, if it's the same this and he offers nothing forward then he needs to improve in a few aspects of his play in terms of being a bit more clever or more physical in terms of stopping runs and intercepting.

he does stop runs and he does intercept. If he doesn't do that job then who does? Someone in the midfield must be winning it back somewhere otherwise the opposition would just be running through on goal for 90 minutes.

I must be watching a different player here because this thread is making it sound like McGeouch stands on the spot in the centre circle, doesn't tackle, doesn't win it back, doesn't move, just waits for the ball to roll to him so he can pass to Flanagan.

He doesn’t get anywhere near forward enough to get to the centre circle.

He’s part of a central midfield that’s also responsible for creating attacking moves. Did not see him create anything today, all I saw was him and Leadbitter sitting in front of the back four knocking five yard balls sideways and backwards. Not good enough.

 I give up.

Gooch, Kimpioka, Embleton, O'Nien, McNulty, Hume all on the park yet Grigg touched the ball about 3 times in 90 minutes. That's an issue with Grigg and not the rest of the team.

Maybe we're asking a lot of Embleton and Hume?. On the other hand, the opportunity is there now for both to grab it.

We'll know better as they face up to L1 sides - these last 2 sides have been technically very decent.
