Do you remember Trelford Mills refereeing that day? The game finished at 501pm as he did his utmost to help West Ham get an equaliser

I didn't know who the ref was but it was the first time I ever really noticed a game going over by multiple minutes.

Used to be a token one or two mins added back then iirc.

People taliing about thornton, i never thought for a second he was all that, with his stupid f***ing hair do and him trying to be David Beckham on the pitch

Great player but not what i would call naturally gifted he just looked at his role and made the best of it.still one of the best players we have at our club!

Shack
George Herd
Dennis Longhorn
Shack and baxter are the two players who would be world class today .......baxter might even scrape into a world best 100 players of all time and shack would be a 100 million plus player!I was a very tricky player who could control a ball and i still cannot fathom how shack could play a ball towards a defender and have enough backspin on it so it rolled back to him ....must be because of the weight of the leather casey and the rib where the bladder was tied ....if anybodyhas repeated this trick with a modern ball i would like to know how they did it.

Was wondering when somebody would mention him - should have been better than he was, never really fulfilled his potential.

Steed was fantastic, and Andy Reid could control a football beautifully - sad thing is, neither of them had any pace. Andy Reid's first touch in a Sunderland shirt was just as he came on as sub, that crossfield pass to Daryl Murphy , one of the best ever goals ever at the SSOL v Wigan.

Most naturally talented player you’ve seen play for Sunderland?

If not then who?

Martin Smith? Chris Waddle? Julio Arca? Lee Cattermole?

I will never get the wankathon over this bloke, best part on here remember him for ONE f***ing game man.
He had POTENTIAL and wasted it!

That may or may not be true, but he was the most naturally talented Sunderland I have seen in 33 years. It was more than just that West Ham game too.
