SMB Tennis thread (note there is a specific Wimbledon 22 thread)

I think Djokovic wins regardless, he is the only one seems to be able to get into Nadal's head and make him play badly, look what he did to him in Australia. For Federer to beat them both at 38 years old would be one of his greatest achievements even for him, just cant see it happening.

@The Bridge Lad What time will they announce the order of play for tomorrow?

I don't think there's a set time, it just seems to come out between 12 and 2pm the day before, but I'm 99.99% sure it will be:

1pm
Djokovic vs RBA
Federer vs Nadal

Fedal were both on last yesterday, so rest wise it makes most sense, plus with that match likely to start around 4pm (assuming ND wins in 3 or 4), it will get the biggest ratings with people coming back from work to see the last couple of sets. I can't see any other scenario, and at least the first semi final won't last 6 and a half hours this year

Sorry for previous message slippy fingers....anyway I haven't been watching wimbledon much but just put a couple of hundred on djokovic 8/11 and Williams 11/10 .to win the tournament....nobody stands out in the rest of the field....i just think djokovic is in his prime while Serena's experience should see her through....

Not sure who I want to win tomorrow, maybe a Strycova vs Halep final.

I'm quite looking forward to Halep-Svitolina, hopefully it's a close battle and goes 3. I didn't think I'd say this, but I hope Serena gets to the final and the opponent (whoever it is) wins the trophy. I didn't want her to come back on the tour and just start dominating again and cleaning up, but there's been 9 slams since she last won one, and 5 since she returned, and I wouldn't begrudge her winning 24, and then 25 sometime before she retired, ideally in about a year and then potentially bow out at either the Olympics or US Open.

Halep-Svitolina probably would have more chance against Strycova in the final, but it certainly wouldn't be a foregone conclusion and as I'm not a Strycova fan, I wouldn't want her to win it, and it wouldn't really do anything for tennis is she did, at least Serena reaching 24 would make a bit of history (and she's grown on me a bit).

Yeah, I would be surprised if that didn't happen - I won't put a couple of hundred on it, but might stick 20 or so before play starts today at 1pm. Everyone says the grass is playing slower this year, but I just can't see any of the other 3 women being a massive threat to SW, a few in the draw could have, but it has opened up for her these past few days with potential stronger opponents dropping.

Djokovic should get past RBA quite straightforward (despite losing to him a couple of times recently), and Nadal/Federer will likely have a gruelling contest, unless someone wins routinely which I can't really see, which will then likely have a bearing on the final. I wish it was Nadal vs Djokovic in the semi final.

We'll be here all day if each game lasts as long as that first one

Yeah, bit of a shame the way it went after the start, but assuming it is Serena then I definitely think this is the best finalist to make it more of a match.

This is Halep's 5th final, 3rd different slam, and she has been #1 for large parts of the past 2 years and is generally one of the more consistent players. I'd like to see her win it.

They're be at least a 30 minute delay between the matches, and then warm up. I reckon RBA can definitely stick it out for 2 hours, and then there's their warm up as well, so I can't see them on court much before 4pm - Do you have a long travel?

Hopefully so in regards to RBA, be home by 4.15, tempted to just record it and not follow it live.

Well that was a bit of a disappointment, less than 2 hours 15 mins play and just 7 games combined for the losers. Still think it will be a decent final, and I guess Serena's presence will ensure interest is high. Halep vs Strycova not so much.

Here's a fact - Serena has won 12 matches to reach back to back Wimbledon finals and the only top 30 player she has beaten is Julia Goerges.

Is that all the crowd get?

There's a men's doubles SF match between the 2nd and 3rd seeds next. There's also a mixed doubles match featuring the last remaining Brits still TBA, but that will likely end up on Court 1.

I think if I was doing an (unrealistic) ideal scenario for today, I'd have Novak winning in a 5 set 5 hour battle, and then Roger winning in a very good, but not too taxing, 4 set match. With England in the Cricket WC final on C4 on Sunday, along with other UK sporting events, a final with RBA in will suffer, especially if it isn't Federer joining him, plus it will mean Fedal starting around 6pm today which will be great for people coming home from work, and then Novak will possibly be seen as being more vulnerable, making the final more anticipated.

More realistic will be Novak winning in 3 straightforward sets, and Nadal coming through an energy sapping victory.

Ominous start pal. Already into the second set and only 39 mins on the clock. Are you following the scores for this one? I'd be tempted to do that if I got in at 4.15 and just fast forward the change of ends (and switch off my phone).

Getting out of here at 3.15 so I reckon should be okay now, especially if RBA takes this set.
