I grew up while the mags were talking about their players, players such as Shearer, Gascoingne,Beardsley and Ginola as their best players and favourite players, yet our fans talk about Lee Cattermole! It’s not even a comparison.

I personally think it’s sad as fuck a club of our statue and fan base have a player with as limited talent as him as their favourite all time player,

While other clubs of similar sizes actually talk about talented players

I don't get that tbh. There is fuck all we can do about who other clubs have playing for them.

I'm not trailing through all the pages to find out if someone else has said something similar but Cattermole's commitment and attitude couldn't be questioned last season but, by fuck, in some games last season he looked poor, some might say embarrassing, considering his recent pedigree, i.e. a PL regular.

I'm not saying I'm happy he's gone (more ambivalent) but I can't understand the reaction of some fans to us getting rid of a player that was on circa £40k a week and left a lot to be desired in far too many matches last season.

Majority aren't though. Most realise its for the best he's gone.

You have one or two being silly and thinking he should have stopped then you have those who find it embarrassing because others rate him.
 
What's the deal financially with him going? The official line makes it sound like it's his decision but wonder what the payoff was. Sorry if already discussed.

Leaving aside his salary. He's a compedent L1 midfielder at best these days. At 40k a week he had to go. Honourable decision by him imo.

There isn't that's fair enough, would just like to think looking back over the last 10/15 years or so, a big club like ours should have had loads and loads of talented players to look back fondly on, yet instead some fans over that period are calling Cattermole legend and one of our best players over that period, when in reality he is a midfielder who doesn't stand out imo and could find his standard and type in almost every team in the top two divisions imo.

He was by far our best midfielder

I can only imagine how bad you thought Max Power and McGeough were on that basis

We have a lot of players fans look back fondly over. There is probably a player who you liked that someone else didn't.
There we go. In your opinion. Others don't share it.
