Cattermole's SAFC legacy

  • Multiple relegation battles
  • Three wembley appearances. No wins. One missed penalty.
  • Captain during back to back relegations
  • His final contract being a scandal
  • Led at least one dressing room revolt against a manager.
  • An incredible amount of yellow cards and suspensions
  • Failure to inspire us/contribute to promotion from league one despite collecting a wage equivalent to entire squads in the same league.
  • Kicking in cars with the Lord and getting arrested
  • 3 PL goals
Give him a testimonial!!

Cannot beat a bit of balance!

Cattermole's SAFC legacy

  • Multiple relegation battles - which he won
  • Three wembley appearances. No wins. One missed penalty. - Three more wembo appearances than most safc captains
  • Captain during back to back relegations - all his fault like?
  • His final contract being a scandal - this doesnt even make sense
  • Led at least one dressing room revolt against a manager. - helped get rid of one of the worst managers we ever had for the good of the club
  • An incredible amount of yellow cards and suspensions - knew when to take one for the team
  • Failure to inspire us/contribute to promotion from league one despite collecting a wage equivalent to entire squads in the same league. - his salary is not really relevant.
  • Kicking in cars with the Lord and getting arrested - young kid does daft thing, how did this affect safc? it didnt.
  • 3 PL goals - not his job.
Give him a testimonial!!
tidied.

Didn't even lead 1 and wasn't even in the meeting where the heed case lost his job.

Please stop telling lies.

 the irony of this post, all you do is talk about how well they are doing with the finances, anyone would think you were an accountant

 What like the people we signed last year who are nowhere near as good as him?

Aye that worked well

They all must have been terrible beyond belief than as Cattermole did not exactly set the world on light did he.

Thanks for the memories. His leadership kept us in the prem.

One of my favorite safc players of all time.

Thanks for memories, what memories relegation battles ever year!

It’s sad as fuck and shows the distinct lack of talent our club has had if he is one of your favourite players of all time!

I grew up while the mags were talking about their players, players such as Shearer, Gascoingne,Beardsley and Ginola as their best players and favourite players, yet our fans talk about Lee Cattermole! It’s not even a comparison.

I personally think it’s sad as fuck a club of our statue and fan base have a player with as limited talent as him as their favourite all time player,

While other clubs of similar sizes actually talk about talented players

Plenty of older mags will have had Kilcline as a favourite player. They had maybe 10 seasons of big signings, we did in the 1950s and won nowt as well.

My favourites have been gabbiadini, Kay, mcphail, Phillips, malbranque, it’s all relative depending on how well a team’s doing at a point in time.

Surely though you've just pointed out by saying best and favourite that it doesn't necessarily mean the same thing.

for example Gary Bennett was one of my favourite players, as was Phillips as was Marco and Kieron Brady. It doesn't mean have to mean 'best'. I'm sure there's some who will say kevin ball was there favourite too and really that's not much better than saying cattermole in terms of quality.

you see favourite is different to best and it's also an indication of the times we've had as a club. we can't really talk about Shearer, Beardsley etcs of this world as we haven't had them.

Well yeah of course I see that point, but I don’t see any great memories at all with Cattermole.

And you dead right it is a indication of where we have been as a club and find that really disappointing.

I don’t see Cattermole than any thing other than a honest pro, comments such as legend and best player are soo wide of the mark, midfielders such as Hutchinson and Rae way better imo

I do agree. early on cattermole was good but always injured or suspended. he became really important to us but wasn't reliable and he's deteriorated quite rapidly over the last 2/3 years.

I thought he was either quite good last season or not good at all. I find it difficult to imagine someone having him as a favourite, but then I still loved Gary Bennett who mostly played in the second tier and was a central defender who made plenty of errors, so I can see why some would like Catts, as a hard working, nitty gritty 100 percent player, who had his limitations but gave his all. certainly not a legend, but a favourite - guess it depends how long you've been watching us.
