SMB Tennis thread

It's just a bit sad watching Zverev at this point. Even if he goes through it's so much more tennis than he should have played.

Still winnable, Vesely isn't exactly the most reliable player in the world. Doesn't look likely Zverev's gonna get it done at the minute though.

Zverev has been shocking French open aside all year, bloke has lendl as coach and is going backwards!!!

Tsitsipas saved 2 MPs in the 4th set tie break, one against serve. 3-3 in the decider.

And now Stef is down a break, could be decisive.

Venus getting her arse kicked off a 15 year old.
Just watching her body language when she walked out she looked like she can’t be arsed. Sad to see such a great player - still seeded 4 - making unforced errors and strolling around the court like a fat lass. Is she injured?

She's been battling illness and injury for a while, but no more than normal, and she played a grass warm up for the first time in years at Birmingham and won a couple of matches there and looked in good spirits. She's ranked about 50 now, so wasn't seeded.

The 15 year old has huge potential and eased her way through 3 rounds of quals, and this was IMO the tie of the whole 1st round, so it wouldn't be huge shock if she lost. Think Gauff was just around 2/1 pre match, so not as if she was a 20/1 outsider like some of the big 3s early opponents.

Gutted Tsitsipas crashed out. I guess the only half positive thing is he was potebtually due to meet Edmund in R3, but there's a lot of tennis for Kyle to play before then.

Sad to see wozniaki struggling

Playing with an injury is always sad to see with her opponent but could she not have played just one more ball so the set could have finished ? I know risking playing through may not have been the best idea but one more point surely was doable. Annoyed me a little bit but our Caroline is through after a potty beginning to the match.

4 women's matches on the 2 main show courts tomorrow, but Kerber had to open play on CC as defending champ, and then you have Serena, the new #1 Barty and home favourite Konta, meaning former champs Muguruza and Kvitova are on Court 3 which is available to those with grounds passes. Rafa being bumped to C1 probably won't help his mood after being far from happy with being bumped to 3rd seed.

2 British wins today out of 2, and there are 8 Brits playing tomorrow and none of them are massive outsiders, so could well possibly get another 4/5/6 wins tomorrow, which would be a great return for Round 1.

That is without doubt the most Grigor Dimitrov scoreline you'll ever see. 6-2 6-3 3-1 up and served for a straight sets win.

Wonder what happened next...
