This one's a bit different, he's 19 and out of contract. In our current division, we won't be able to match Hoffenheim's offer.

19 year old CBs tend to not to be ready for first team duties. Looking at some of the shithouse forwards we played against last year, he'd have been a lamb to the slaughter.
All of this.

We might as well mothball the older academy sides 'til we're out of this mess.

I do think we need to look at the timing on which we offer new contracts, tho at 19 he should have been closer to our first team than he was, given our league status and centre back problems

The usuals suspects will be along moaning as usual, although it happens to mancity and chelsea

Absolutely bizarre to insist that people aren't allowed to be disappointed with bad news.

Absolutely this. Presumably though he's been banned from first team duties because he was in the last 12 months of his deal.

Can’t blame people for moaning about losing young players when we’re taking the piss signing our own players. This period after the season is the doldrums. Another takeover really accentuates the drama.

being disappointed is fine...though people should be realistic that is top flight clubs come in we havtn a chance.

There are so many ways Rich. Im not going to type out an essay or am I saying that this lad would have stayed had we done things better, but can you imagine how damaging an attitude of "it happens elsewhere, what can we do?" would be if it was held by the club?

Freedom of movement and player agents, put those two together and we have the answer.

Happy to take minimal compensation more like. It's all about pound signs

If the lad wasn't up to the standard of the clown's we played at centre half then Hoffenheim are getting a dreadful footballer. If he is, then I fully agree.
Jack Ross doesn't do youth.

Not surprised like, maybe this one was harder to stop, but in general the regime is like the fact they can generate income from players who have never played for the first team

its been a joke since the new owners came in, absolute chaos in the academy, I worry for it

they arent happy to take miniminal compo-thst why they have been selling them for more than minimal.
man city arsenal and chelsea have all lost young players to germany-you really think safc shouldnt?

Always a shame when players go to clubs higher up the pyramid. Overall I’m not that concerned, though. This is probably the first time in decades where we’ve been producing players that are in demand. I see no sign that these are specific cases. If anything, the reports of age group successes suggests that we’re generally getting it right in producing players at the moment. If some leave there will be more ready to take their place - and the reputation we are building up as a gateway will no doubt help our youth recruitment.

What should be of greater focus is the first team squad and the fact that its sheer size is an impediment to getting these players where we want them - in a red and white shirt. We need to clear the logjam in the first team and create more opportunity for these lads at our club. That way, the next time we have a Jacob Young on the fringes he might take the decision to stay and make his career here.

Players aren't leaving because they aren't getting 1st team action, its nothing to do with that

how would you stop this? man city cant-but you think safc can?
