Sunderland might have been his first choice over that period, but the minute Cardiff showed interest we were likely to lose. It’s just where we both are as clubs at the moment.

He’d have been aware of Cardiff’s possible interest imo and would have been waiting to see if that materialised.

Think the only way we’d have got him is if we offered more than what Cardiff did, so we’d have had to offer in the region of £20k a week (possibly more) which would be f***ing daft as a league 1 team in the last year of parachute payments.

I'd be amazed at Curtis Nelson getting a move to the Championship. Must have a great agent...
